This question is directed to Kindle Fire users and @Dave:

I got a new Kindle Fire last September (Kindle Fire HDX 8.9", 16 GB, with wifi and 4G). It worked great and I used it a lot on ATP and Cubits and for everything else. A couple of weeks ago the keyboard started locking up on ATP and Cubits. I'd be typing, then all of a sudden it would just stop. I'd hit letters on the keyboard but the curser wouldn't move. Thinking that the problem was the device, I called Amazon, using the Mayday button (I LOVE the Mayday button). They had me restart the device, didn't solve the problem, and they sent me a brand new unit a few days ago. Now this device is doing the same thing, and seems to be only on ATP and Cubits.

Did you change something on the sites that might be causing this problem Dave? Are any other users having the same issue? I've looked at the settings, especially keyboard setting, and can't find anything that might be a problem. I've tried turning on and off auto correct, auto capitalize, etc. to no effect.

This is two different Kindle Fires that developed this problem starting just a couple of weeks ago. And since it doesn't happen on other apps like gmail or calendar or maps or anything else, it seems to me it's ATP that's at issue rather than the device. I need this to work. Any comments or suggestions?

When the keyboard stops working, what is happening on the device? Is the browser still responsive? Can you stop typing and instead click away to a different page on the site?

Yes, no problem. I just can't type on ATP. Refresh doesn't resolve the locked keyboard, but I can navigate to home screen or to another website. The device itself remains functional except on ATP and Cubits.

Browser is up to date, checked yesterday, running Fire OS 4.5.2

So when this happens, if you navigate to another website, does the keyboard work there? And if you then navigate back to ATP, the keyboard once again does not work?

And is this just in the threads, or also tree mail and other areas?

Well, I don't type on many other websites, except things like email or calendar (I use google for those), and I don't have a problem there. I haven't noticed whether it affects treemail, but I'll test it now by treemailing you from the device. I'm on my desktop now.

Thanks for helping find the problem.

What I'm trying to figure out is what specific areas are causing the problem. Knowing the keyboard stops working isn't helpful at all, but if we knew that it works in one area of the site but doesn't work in another area, then I can look at the differences between them and that can help find what is causing this.

If you can't type in both tree mail and the threads, I'd like to know that. If you then go to a different site like gmail and can type there, I'd want to know.

Also, if while this problem persists, if you go to your profile and try to edit your infobox to your profile, that would be quite useful to know.

I sent you a treemail from the fire. No keyboard problems in treemail.

Karen, if I'm understanding correctly what Dave is asking for...you might try changing something like your zone info in your profile. Just to see if that part works.

Right, but it looks like we may have narrowed this down to just the forums, where you can type everywhere except in the threads.

Duh! Thanks Chelle. I'm a computer idiot, admittedly.

I just tried GardenWeb and didn't have a problem there.

No keyboard issues when I tried to type in profile area, but when I navigated back to this thread I couldn't type even the first letter. Had to go back to my desktop.

The keyboard seems fine in both treemail and profile, seems fine in gmail and calendar and on amazon and gardenweb and everywhere else. I just can't use it on ATP and Cubits forums.

Surely I'm not the only one with this issue? Does anybody else use a Kindle Fire HDX and NOT have issues?

Karen, thank you for continuing to help troubleshoot this.

I just made a change to your preferences and disabled the smily icons. Could you now try typing in the threads and see if it works now?

OK I'm on the device now. I'll ramble on mindlessly and just keep typing. So far so good. Smooth as silk, no pun intended.

Testing 123.

Now it's the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country.

No issues, not locking up. I think you solved it, Dave.

Well, it looks like the problem is related to the smilies. I'll leave them disabled for you for now so you can type. But that means that you can't see them nor use them until I fix it.
