Wow Mary, what a great article. What does the Mellon taste like??? I've never seen one, never even heard of one. Where do you get them? Have you ever grown them??

Did you make any tea from your dried peels? I wonder what that is like too??? Most interesting article! Thanks mart and Sister!! Thank You!

Thank you everyone for the thumbs up and for the acorns. This was a fun article. PlantSister and I worked on this a long time and hope everyone will try to grown the African Horned Melon.

I received my original seeds from my friend PlantSister but the seeds are available from places like Baker Creek, Seed Savers Exchange and other places; they may be offered as "Kiwano Melons" or "Jelly Melon".

If anyone wants to try to grow African Horned Melons I have seeds available. If you can grow a cucumber you can grow these; very easy plant to grow, just give it some support so it can climb. I have not yet made the tea as I learned about that too late (already chucked the peels in the compost bin) but will made the tea this year.

Oh, the taste? It is a complicated taste. You know how difficult it is to describe the taste of Kiwi fruit? Well, the Horned Melon is like that - not to say it tastes like a Kiwi, only that it is difficult to describe. To some people it tastes like a combination of bananas, melon, lime, and cucumber. I just like it because it is so green. Rolling on the floor laughing
