go ahead and yak...Please have fun but try to keep it light and fun. We could all use a laugh, too!
If you know a member who needs help or cheering up don't hesitate to let us know that as well.

My snow is going fast. Supposed to be +8 today and +10 tomorrow. Unheard of temps for this time of year. Of course, we could still get a significant dump during March and early April, not to mention some real cold weather.

Yeah, that possible cold weather is the scary part. The snow is not really a big deal, it won't last long now. It's 39 degrees F here right now and we're supposed to get up in the mid to upper 40s and then get some rain. That will take down a bunch of snow. I need to get my deer deterents out and ready to go. What's a hosta chat without raving about the beautiful hosta, and ranting about what the critters have done to them?

Here's a pic from my garden last June. I heard rumors that summer is suppose to return and today I finally saw signs of it.

Very pretty. It's just been so mild here lately I'm afraid my hostas are going to get confused.

It has been a little too mild here this past week as well. I have tulips about 1" tall in the front of the house and a bunch of stuff coming up in the areas where snow melted. Today we spotted daffodils as we left the driveway! Seems too early for all of that.

The snow just melted and showed ground last weekend, and in one of the beds there are tips of daffodils for me, too. Not much we can do if we get a cold snap, just hope it happens soon if it's gonna happen (before the flower buds peek out).

I've still got quite a bit of snow around the flower beds, especially on the north side. We need some good rains to get the rest gone I think. As long as we don't get any cold snaps.

Debbie - I posted the other day, but don't see it here.

I offered a prize to whoever brought in the 60th member of the Hostas Cubit and best I can figure, KimLynn was #60. I guess she brought herself in, so... when she cmails me her address, I will send some handmade notecards that Wandasflowers makes. They are the size of reg. birthday or other cards and have a variety of flowers/hostas pictures on them. KimLynn - where are you?

We are not at #69 and waiting for that 70th member to join!

Just the owners get to see it. Dave said they don't want to discourage people from "not joining" cubits that have low membership, etc.
You can click on individual people's names and see what they joined or own if their settings allow you to see.

If you want to know if they joined Cubits in general, there is a link at the bottom of the pages for the membership list for all of Cubits.

all our snow was melted by March 6th when i got home from 3 weeks in COLD Florida.... then we had a wonderful thunderstorm, with lightening... which greened things up. then more snow on Saturday [yesterday] ... think we got 2" ... and it's already gone.

things should be drying out by Tuesday so I can get back out in the dirt. I was rooting around in the north bed last week, Thursday i think, and saw a pip on Winsome, and there are a few more that look like they are ready to wake up.

Though -- we will not be as warm as we were last week.

>>then, for Non registered ones, go to the Hosta Library, to the hosta, then click on the Lemke data link.

I didnt want to clutter up the Image thread with chatter.... so i'll ask here.

I guess I dont fully understand "unregistered' ... i mean, i know it means, "not registered" but....
what exactly does it mean?

What i'm looking for is... I purchased a hosta that I believe is not registered, but has the same as a registered one.
Can someone name a new hosta a name that is already out there? or viseversa.... one was already named and not registered - then someone names it the same and registers it??

How can there be two hostas with the same name, one registered, and one not?

or, was there just an error along the way?

I know this is a lot of questions... but i'm just trying to figure something out.

TIA

BUT -- when i get to adding new images, i'll follow your directions.

If you go to the AHS Registry, and it isn't listed there, then it is likely not registered. People don't usually use a name of one that has been registered. You can look at the AHS registry and see all of the details and see if the one you bought matches the AHS record. There are alot of details there (also lots of pictures on the Hosta Library along with the Lemke database descriptions of any/almost all hostas widely available out there. You should be able to narrow it down as to whether or not you have the real one (registered one). If you can't, post it on the ID forum here and give lots of info and someone may be able to help you, too.
Regarding names --
People usually give a new one a name first (some people never register them). Some unregistered ones are sold widely enough that people know the name and would not use it to register another new one.
