Great! I think Sunflowers are just so pretty. I really love sunflowers. And you have the room to grow them.
I'm kind of worried about having the deer eat them! I'll plant some in the fenced in part too, just to get a good supply of seeds for next year. I'm also planting Amaranthus, and I think the deer like that even more. Hopefully that will keep them distracted long enough for the sunflowers to grow.
@Rose1656 - I usually stake as many as I'm able to. Otherwise, thunderstorms would topple them all. Typically, for me about half of them end up staked (3/4 " re-bar is stake of choice but wooden broom handles work well too). These 'Kong' offspring get over 12' tall, some maybe 15'.
I have seedlings coming up under the bird feeders so I'm going to try shoveling them en masse to a new location. I haven't done sunflowers since I was a kid.

Just found this thread thhanks to bxncbx. Last year, a field of sunflowers seemed to magically appear at a major intersection in town. It brought the whole town out as word spread, Made media and print news. I was recovering from very recent surgery, and a friend surprised me one day, took me there, walker and all. It was quite a sight!
