I, too, would like this feature. I have some tomato seeds from various sources that are not listed in the database.

Thanks, Dave! Awesome!

beckygardener said:I would certainly be interested in this feature for seedlings of Daylilies, Brugmansias, perhaps other plant species. I have lots of seedlings of those two mentioned.

Would we be allowed to look at other members entries and photos?

I would be most interested in seeing what certain crosses produce. (There could be a wide range of characteristics from two named parents.) It would be very interesting and helpful to see what might be dominating genetic characteristics (especially in the blooms).

I think anyone can see another member's lists, unless the member has marked their list private. If someone doesn't want anyone else to see their crosses, they could mark their list private.

Would these entries show up in our main lists, comingled with our other plants? It seems there are two factions who might use this feature - those who hybridize and those who have NOIDs they want to keep track of individually. I fall into the latter group and would like to see all my plants in one spot, with the NOIDs each having a separate entry. I currently lump them together in a parent category, with notes in the comments section what they are and where in my garden. I'd sure like to be able to individually address (for example) my white lilac, lavender lilac, and dark french lilac - they came from my mom's yard but bloom at different times and I'd love to have a separate entry for each to track bloom time, disease/pest problems, true height, etc. Same with random iris, peonies, rhodies, and other plants I've acquired over the years with little hope of getting a definitive ID.

This is a wonderful idea. I have many daylily seedlings. so I would use this. Plus, this would make it possible for me to cut all ties with that "other site". Right now I'm using their journal feature for this purpose. Smiling

Basically, eventually the Plant List will become a personal plant database, with most of the features of the full database, especially databoxes that you can control on your own. You'll basically be the moderator of your own database that lives separate from the main database.

Wow! Now that would be really useful Hurray!
Yes, count me as interested too Smiling

I do the same thing as Joy. I would love to have all my information I use & like to keep here. To be able to add my own photos would really nice.

Late to the information party, but I would definitely use this for my hybrid seedlings. What a great tool this would be.

@Dave, just checking status on this idea. I am going through my fall cleanup, making notes in My List, and would love to be able to separate out my NOID lilacs, NOID grapes, NOID anythings to separate entries so even though I may never know the actual cultivar I can at least give each plant its own entry to track bloom time, care, etc. Perhaps a winter project?

Deb, thanks for asking this! I've been wondering about this all day! Came inside earlier to ask myself, and forgot what I came in the house for. Blinking Rolling on the floor laughing Nothing new there!

Natalie - my 'work around' for NOIDS is to best guess the cultivar and add that to My List so each can have its own entry. Then I upload my personal photo to the generic plant listing, then copy and paste that generic photo into the comment section of my perhaps-fake My List entry. I also note in My List comments that I am guessing on the cultivar. Not very scientific, but it allows me to track each plant individually.

That's a great idea Deb! I was thinking more for daylily seedlings myself, which don't have a name. But, I could use that for my one NoID daylily, if I can ever come up with a best guess! It has stumped everyone! Still, I could upload the picture to the generic entry and do as you do. Thanks for the great idea!

It's definitely high on my list. I've been giving it a lot of thought and planning but haven't started the actual programming on this yet because I haven't finalized how I want to do it.

I definitely get reminded of this quite frequently, though, because @jon wants to track all his daylily seedlings. I am personally growing a lot of crepe myrtle crosses that I want to keep track of, too.

As was said above, this may end up being a winter project for me to program.

This will be a welcome feature Dave. It's been so easy using the list feature here that I've gotten very sloppy with what I've been tracking at home.
