Sweet pics! Thumbs up

Native Trumpet vine and Turk's Cap is still blooming here for the hummers, and other flowers growing in the cottage garden. But also have five feeders out that I'm filling daily. There has been large numbers of hummingbirds the past few weeks, until just the other day when we got a "cold front" and wind (it went down to 58F at night). Since lots of them have been passing through, I guess they moved on. There's still plenty of them here, dozens. This morning is the first morning I didn't have to refill any feeders!

Hummers are very active here, bulking up for the long flight. Have to refill the feeders almost daily. Most I see are young males and a mature one still here. Rarely see a female. My last date to have them is between Oct. 4 and 10. One of the young ones likes to sit on the tomato cage and rest between chases.

Cute pictures! Hurray! Hurray! I don't recognize the hummingbird with the dark tail but it sure is cute with its tongue sticking out! Hilarious! At first I thought it had a very long curved beak... but looks like the same one, some with the tongue out, some not.

That first hummingbird pic is awesome too, with tiger swallowtail butterfly in the background! Thumbs up Lovey dubby

Almost got some good pics yesterday w/ zoom, but could not attain stability necessary to freeze the moment. There were two of them trying to establish superiority over a plant of Blue Lobelia.

Hi Christine, I only get ruby throated here. Mature males have no white spots on the tail. Young males have white spots like females. The pics on the tomato cage are all of the same young male. He sticks his tongue out a lot, maybe testing the air?

Jmorth, love the blue abelia. I need to get some of that.

You can see the tiny spot of red gorget feathers coming in in Becky's photos -- I read that's a juvie male OR sometimes a really old female will have a small spot like that but according to what I read, the females have white at the center of their tail also so I'm thinking Becky is right & it's a juvie male. Great pics Becky!

J, you got some nice pics too. Thumbs up
