Hi Kathy,

That middle zinnia of yours is kind of half-and-half, pink and pinkish ivory. You don't see that every day. I don't have any zinnias growing at the present time. We have moved into town to an apartment and, considering our situation right offhand, I don't know of any significant in-ground zinnia growing opportunities at the moment. It is probably too late in the year here to start anything outdoors anyway. I still have a lot of zinnia pictures, like this one.

That orange cactus bloom had a kind of fading effect, although not enough to get excited about.

I tip my hat to you.

ZM, perhaps there is a community garden in the area.

Loretta,

I will look into the Community Garden possibility. I feel like parking a zinnia picture, so here goes.

I kind of like the white bases on those petals. I think it would be neat to have a whole strain of zinnias in all colors, but with white bases. As I recall, the Crown of Gold strain was dahlia flowered with yellow bases on all of their petals. I think it works better to have base-color zinnias be more or less single, just so the bases get good visual exposure.

ZM
I tip my hat to you.

Beautiful blooms, the orange color is very nice! The ones you gave me are close to blooming, I'll share the results when they do.

I got a cool speckled zinnia from seeds I've saved over the years. It's ancestors were speckled zinnia crossed with cactus zinnia.

@Zenman
This no-garden situation is hopefully temporary.
Our local senior community center has gardens around their building, and they are receptive to garden projects. Maybe your area senior center would have space for a zinnia garden. I bet there'd be some people interested in helping.

My zinnia row is bursting with color. I have to tell you this summer has been wet & rainy. My garden soil has been so wet, I've had a hard time getting in to cut bouquets. Other plants in that garden are suffering - dahlia, sunflowers, potatoes - but not zinnia. They are the stars of the summer - again. They don't care - even when we got over 4" of rain in one week.
I have to say zinnia offer it all - beauty, reliable, fast growing, intriguing variances, and because I save seeds - FREE.

Hi Kathy!

All but one of the Zinnias you sent me seeds from your variegated zinnia have bloomed. Here are the color blooms I got, and one plant is variegated. I'm close to having the last, heavily variegated zinnia plant bloom.

I really like the third one, because its petals have corrugations, which are a bit out-of-the-ordinary. Thumbs up

Keith ! Great.
The zinnia plants from the seeds you sent me are vibrant and rich in color but no stripes or even speckles. Pictures soon.

@ZenMan
I purchased seeds & grew all red zinnias in a row separate from my standard mixed colors zinnia. They are about 12 feet away from each other, with a row of 24" snapdragons between. When I collect the seeds from the red zinnia, what do you think my chances are of having next years' seeds develop all red flowers.
The three rows:

I just love these red zinnia:
Thumb of 2023-08-31/katesflowers/be005e
Here's an oddity. The zinnia packet said red, but i had just one color up & form like this:
Thumb of 2023-08-31/katesflowers/f2abd7
And yes I'll save the seeds on this one & keep separate.

Kathy, those zinnias are really nice. What type were they?
