I have two heirloom squash and watermelon types I have cream of crop- a dwarf winter squash from bakers creek and I have cream of sakashwean watemelons. I live in zone 4 twin cities meto. when would i start the seeds indoors? I was thinking ealy may indoors but is this too soon?.

I really have no good advice. I direct plant watermelon and squash around my last frost date or maybe a week before. They germinate and grow very fast so I would think 3-4 weeks before your last frost date for indoor starts.

You sound like you haven't yet seen the customizable planting calendar on ATP, you are in for a treat! On home page go to "goodies" then the first item in that page is garden planting calendar. Enter your city and voila! Tell me how it works for you. I even send a customized calendar when sending seeds to out of towners who call me for advice and seeds, am giving a garden planting calendar to my niece and nephew as part of house warming gift for their new house.
