I love the photo of Sun Power - very dramatic. Have you entered that in the DG photo contest? If you are still there and they have such a contest next autumn, you should.

Do they NEVER flower for you? I guess that must be a function of a longer summer.

Some flower occasionally, most have never flowered. That being said, I've only had the majority of them for less than five years. One flowered for the first time after almost 10 years. It hadn't even occured to me that it could! Hilarious!

Hosta sieboldii has flowered most often, about 3 times I think. It doesn't grace me with flowers every year though, and it was at least 5 years old when it flowered for the first time. To me Hostas are foliage plants and flowers are just a very rare bonus ;-)

I bet you'd have best luck with those that bloom early in the season. I have a few which are iffy for me even in Ottawa because they bloom so late.

You're absolutely right! That's true about all perennials, late bloomers don't stand a chance of flowering up here .... for instance most Astilbe flower late August - September, some years they don't flower at all. I think they flower mid-season elsewhere? Astilbe japonica cultivars flower earlier and they're the only reliable bloomers here (of the Astilbe cultivars that is).

I've organized all my photos of hosta pictures into one folder regardless of what year they were taken. Here are some more - This is a young 'Blue Shadows' taken a few years ago.
