I purchased this one last fall and it still has the label attached listing it as 'Song Writer'. I know that flower color can be variable depending on conditions and although my bloom has the bright citron green throat, the petal color is a deep maroon rather than deep rose as described at the AHS site : http://www.daylilies.org/Dayli...

Except for bloom color, mine resembles some of those pictured in our ATP database Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Song Writer') but I'd like to get confirmation before adding the photo's. What do you think, could it be Song Writer or someone else?

In my opinion it is definitely not Song Writer.
Here's my Song Writer.

It looks familiar but I can't put a name on it.

Ok, I have a few that look similar that were listed in the sale when I got this one. I'm just so bad at identifying by comparing photos.

My DL, which is NOT 'Song Writer' I purchased one named 'Midnight Raider' from the same sale and photos of that one look like it.

A few other possibilities that were listed in the same sale:

I am really familiar with Crack of Doom and have not seen it without the distinctive light streaks coming from the throat at the midribs.

I grew Midnight Raider when it was new and for many years. It is old enough that it was before all the big edges of today, so I don't think that is it.

I have grown Roman Cohort and seen it growing in many gardens. I would call it more of a deep raspberry-rose than the burgundy purple of your flower.

It is possible you were sent the wrong plant, or the person you got it from had the wrong plant.

The person I purchased it from is working with me and trying to help with ID. I bought seven or eight DL's and I think the tags possibly got switched.

I'm going to go ahead and mark this as closed for now but will return and post the name if I figure out which one it is.

Green Grin! Ok, I just figured I wouldn't take up the space but I'll re-open it for awhile.

I have seen mature bloom on Midnight Raider and it does not have that white edging like that. That I can confirm for you. Honestly, I don't think it looks like it is any of the possibilities you posted.
But it is pretty!

Admit I don't know much about Daylilies; only have 3 or 4, but now that you say the tags may have been switched I'll put my 2 cents worth in here. Looks very much like Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Song Triumphant') that plantladylin offered as a possible suggestion/comparison from the ATP database.

Okay, I will now step back to the Asiatic Lily department where I am entirely more comfortable. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I agree with frillylily, yours is not any of the ones you listed above, it has that ruffling with the white edges on both the petals and the sepals. In color it is close to Midnight Raider but MR lacks that white ruffled edging as already mentioned. Each of the other images you added are either the wrong color and most also have either a darker eye and/or a watermark around the throat, neither of which appears on your bloom.

It's not Song Triumphant either, not the right color and ST also has a watermark.

Thanks for the input y'all ... I've spoken with the seller and we can't figure out which one it might be; the DL's were not in bloom when divided and I've been told that it's possible that it could be a seedling that sprouted within the clump of the one I purchased. It doesn't really matter what the name is, I love those blooms!

Thanks for trying y'all! Thumbs up

Was just looking at the May 2015 Blooms thread in the daylily forum and one pictured there looks similar, although I'm not good at catching the subtle differences between daylily flowers:

Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Velvet Throne')

Mightn't it be worth asking for suggestions in the daylily forum?

Larry, the scape got broken off by my goofy dog and I placed the bloom in water to enjoy it yesterday but it's now gone. There are currently no more scape's on the plant but I want to say it was @ 12" - 14" and the bloom @ 4 1/2 " across.

*** edited to add: And my memory is not what it used to be so I could be way off on the measurement guesses.

Wow, Sue ... those photos of 'Velvet Throne' sure look identical to my bloom! I'll have to ask the grower if it's perhaps one she carries.

Velvet Throne seems to have a smaller throat and it says it has a pale watermark around the throat, which you can see in that photo.
