You mean the horse microbadge? I didn't get one for a while because it says "keeps horses" whereas others are "lover of" or just give the name of the animal/bird/amphibian/whatever. I had horses for several decades, raised a few foals, showed etc. We lost the last one a few years ago when she was 32 (had her since a yearling). Eventually I could resist no more and purchased the horse microbadge anyway even though I won't be getting any more. I now just look longingly at other peoples' horses in fields as we pass by........

Well, you "keep" the memories of the horses you once owned. That's close enough. Smiling I have 20 of them, and on days like yesterday when I was out in the cold rain tromping through ankle deep mud to care for them, I began to wonder if I shouldn't just keep the memories too! Hilarious!

I buy and use the microbadges to suit myself, and they often have different meanings (to me) than that stated. There was some talk a while back about renaming the animal badges for consistency and/or separating the badges into a few general categories (regions, animals, etc.) Might be a winter project. Or it might just stay as is. In any event, feel free to rock a horse badge if that's one of your passions.
I want to live in a world where the chicken can cross the road without its motives being questioned.

And then there's when one is sick with the flu or a cold in mid-winter and still have to drag oneself out there. The other time I'm sometimes glad it's just memories is haying time.......

Thanks, Deb. Cross-posted.

I had days when I was down in the back and had to make many trips with small amounts of hay in order to get the work done. Ugh, then there's the day my mare stood National Champion in western pleasure, and it makes it all worth the work. Smiling

I'm just getting bad through some of the threads after days away. How about old photos? Surely you have one when she stood National Champion, and Western Pleasure, you were the rider?

That was in 1977, they didn't have digital pictures yet then. I could scan some old pictures I guess, if I can figure out how to do that on my new printer. Here's a picture of the babies Paternal Grandmother.

Her name is Rusty. She's the mother of the sire of the two babies.

Here's a picture of one of my stallions. His name is Judy's Double Down (Dubby for short) His sire is one of three paint stallions to sire winners of more then $3,000,000. in race winnings. Can't give them baths in this weather, so dirt stains and all. Smiling

This is Mighty Special Girl. She's an "aunt" of the two foals.

Here's a video of her after 4 months of training, she ended up being in training for 7 months.

Dubby is very nice!! The mare is very nice too. Looks well built.

Before I ever really got into horses as a child, my mom purchased encyclopedia Britanica (??spelling) or some such set of large encyclopedias. It came with what was called a cyclo-teacher. I thoroughly enjoyed that teaching unit. It had disks to learn cats, dogs and horses (probably others, but those were my favorite memories). When I got horses (or started as a couple ponies), I subscribed to Western Horseman magazine. But the one thing I never understood, or came to understand even to adulthood, was the differences in paints and pintos and the patterns. Perhaps because I wasn't interested. A couple times I tried to understand, but I'd look at photos and just couldn't get it.

Thanks for posting the photos!

Haven't looked at the video, but Mighty Special Girl is very nice too. Looks like she's in training for Trail Class.

Ooops! Wrong gender, she is a stout gal and looks nicely balanced. We have Thoroughbreds - retired racers - so I am used to looking at quite different conformation.

Pinto and Paint are both color breeds, but two separate associations. The Paint only accepts horses with Quarter horse or Thoroughbred breeding. Pinto has 4 divisions, one for the quarter type called stock type, one for TB's called Hunt type, One for Arab or Morgan types called Pleasure types, and one for Saddlebreds called Saddle types. Many horses that are registered Paint, are also registered Pinto. There are two color patterns in both Paint and Pinto, and they are the same gene in both that cause the spots. Dubby is of the Tobiano color pattern, and Girl is of the Overo color pattern.

Porkpal, I have a TB stud too, and another Paint Stallion that is 15/16 TB. They are half brothers.

I will try to hunt up more pictures later, maybe scan a few.

Thank you Tom for that explanation. For some reason no one ever explained (or I didn't read or whatever), that it all had to do with the registry, and that I understand. Or perhaps also, it was the two color pattern types that I didn't quite understand. Much better now.

Looking forward to more pictures.

Here are some older pictures of mares and babies. This first filly is now 4 years old. She now belongs to an woman in Illinois who does trail riding.
Thumb of 2015-12-07/tveguy3/a8abb4

This filly is double registered Quarter Horse and Paint, although she doesn't have any spots, she's in the solid breeding stock division of the paint registry. Her sire is the other stallion in the Paint breed to have produced over $3,000,000. in race winners. She's now 6 years old. I still have her.
Thumb of 2015-12-07/tveguy3/f9d45c

This is Spy Look, he's my 21 year old 15/16 Thoroughbred Stallion. Not the best picture, but you get the idea. He has 13 crosses to Man O' War.
Thumb of 2015-12-07/tveguy3/e7825a

This is one of Spy Look's daughters, she's now 2 years old. I don't own her or the mother, although they are boarded here. This is a half sister the black and white filly at the start of this thread.

This is her at weaning time.

This is another one of my stallions, he's now 21 years old. This picture was taken when he was 3 years. old. He's performance bred, not a race horse. He's a half brother to Rusty above.
