microb said:For years I've had a large wet vac canister on wheels doing nothing in the garden shed. Almost threw it away. Then realized that it was water tight and decided to turn it into a water lily tub. Ok, so its bright red but it looks kind of neat on the edge of the driveway in the sun with new water lily plants. Won't have blooms for a while and need to add some guppies or swords to add interest. Its only a short distance from an old chest freezer that had the lid removed, lined with black plastic sheet and added water. Cover the exterior with ferns and bougainvillea and you would never know what it is. Will have take and post pics.

Wow, guppies I got! All fancies, very vivid colors, so many babies bought a 2nd tank....trying to sell them on Craigslist, not 1 call! No idea what to do with them all,
we just did a small bathroom sink water pond, turned out cute, but not deep enough for my guppies, summer would be too hot even under a shade tree.

All I did today was a bit of watering and looking things over, I discovered my pink Astilbe beginning to bloom, red one not far behind! I discovered the Starlings
are taking dips in my sink garden pond and broke my plant, they have 2 other bird baths they could of used! I tossed some cut off Philodendrons into my little pond, I use to put them into my fish tank submerged and they last a very long time. Also pulled half a billion maple tree saplings, yuk!
Of course it is suppose to rain all weekend, I am off weekends and want to be outside in my yard. One other thing I did today was dust around some of my plants with diathomous earth for slug prevention.

Well, we got the holes dug for the two new roses. Pulled out a few more weeds from the rose bed in the process. Turns out, more of the roses survived this last winter than I'd thought! Yea! Even the minis! But, grrrr, now I'm seeing aphids on my Outta the Blue buds.

Bizzy peeples here! Whoo! Green Grin! Thumbs up

The nayb garden walk was a bit of a bust. Only the neighborhood association president and one other person came on the "walk" part. They were very complimentary and enthusiastic about my garden. Pres says "We'll have to put you on our Beautification Committee!" and I says, after a pause, "I am available for consultation." Hilarious! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Then the neighbors from the wooded yard next door came by and that was nice. They -- or the wife rather -- will phone me next week to set a time for me to come over and us to dig a forsythia and a particularly dark colored daylily she wants to give me. Cool!

Maybe next year they will publicize this more, but for now I am done and glad to be.

Visited the local farmers market and spent $2 on a miniature orchid. Dead headed the Orchid Cactus. Not much garden time today. Hope I can add a pic of the wetvac lily pond and the box freezer pond. Freezer pond is now hidden by growth of variegated bouganvillia. In time the wetvac pond will also get hidden by plants

The weather was great today for working in the garden, 73f with some afternoon cloud which kept it from getting too hot. I planted a few more annuals, put petunias in pots that I will place in the shrub beds for a nice splash of color, then swept the patios where I did the potting and made a big mess. Hilarious! I still have a few more plants to find a spots for. Shrug!

Well, we finished up our work last night after the beautiful sunset. The sedge has been watered well to give it a good start. I'll be sending plant starts from home to fill the last pot. Reverse Variegated Spider Plants should do well there and will give her many babies to replant as a border later. We saved the coir liner that was under the sedge mat, cut it up and added it to her vat of potting soil for future use. I collected the few cuttings of sedge, will let it dry and root for 10 days, and DD will gave another large clump to add to the garden.

I have a large yard that contains large stands of clumping bamboo about 70ft high, 19 years old. Spent the morning raking bamboo leaves. About one third complete and 8 full wheelbarrow later - worn out. Neighbors come and get the rotted leaves for mulch. Warning - if you are going to put bamboo in your yard check and see how big it will get in years to come!

First thing I did was water all the pots and containers as it was going to be a very warm day, at least for me in my little corner of the world, 80f so far.. Rolling my eyes. Today's big gardening chore was tough in the heat, I trimmed the grass and edged the beds, swept the walks and patios, everything looks so nice and neat. Green Grin!

I wouldn't want to do that at 80f either. Lotta work! Bet it looks great.

I planted my new astilbe today, rearranged the staking and plant supports around tomatoes and some other things, cut back the borage that was about to eat the world -- that was all I could manage today. Coming week is forecast to get into the mid nineties for a few days.

I think I will just move into the refrigerator.
