My cousin gave me several seed pods a few months back and said that this vine would produce a nice purple flower. I planted the seeds in four locations and it seems they all came up. It is an attractive vine and is producing purple seeds pods-- something like a purple butterbean. Can someone help identify this for me. I am located in zone 9, south Louisiana. Thanks for your help.
After reading the info on this bean, I will grow only as an ornamental. It is a fast grower and I do enjoy the color. I am curious if this will draw any butterflies, hummingbirds, etc.
I agree with the ID of Purple Hyacinth Bean (Lablab purpureus) I grew it for a few years from seeds received in a trade. An interesting plant whose flowers attract bees, butterflies and hummingbirds.
