I fried my laptop and just replaced with a Lenovo 2-in-1 which runs on Windows 8.1 - huge learning curve. I am now having to log in to ATP every time even tho I don't ever log out. Is this just another annoyance of new technology or can I fix this? So far I dislike everything about this new computer (bought today) and may simply return it and try to find a reconditioned oldie.

Make sure your computer is set to save history. At top go to tools - choose options - choose privacy. And see if it is set to save history.

Thanks - will make a note to remember this when I get a new computer. I am going to wait for release of Windows 10... or better yet 10.1.

Took me a while to get used to using 8.1, still don't like it but I can at least get around.

You can still get laptops with Windows 7.

At this point I am just limping along using my mostly burned out Nook for net access. I will revisit new computer needs in the fall. Or perhaps winter. Might be interesting to disconnect a bit.

Microsoft just announced the release date for Win 10, July 29. Now all you need to do is wait for 10.1. Hilarious!

Nothing wrong with a nice IPad......Get one with LTE access and you are golden, especially since with that you have now a decent camera too and you can post pictures straight (and everything else) from your IPad pretty much anywhere.

the user experience in windows 8.1 is a pain to learn for sure. luckily windows 10 will run on a raspberry pi ($25 mini-pc designed for nerds) so a replacement system you can afford to crush in a fit of rage is just around the corner.

I skipped a couple of generations when I finally moved to windows 7... not entirely sure that's the way to go, it was a BIG transition from XP !! Blinking

Of course, by now I like it just fine and don't want to switch to something else... Whistling

I will say, though, that for my laptop I would really prefer a system that is not so touch-screen oriented. Touch-screen is great for my tablet, and for my phone, but laptop... Thumbs down
