Heucheras forum: Huchera Rust

here are photos of two of my four hucheras plants that have very serious rust. The other two are fine. I think I will cut off the foliage now rather than wait until Fall and hope for the best.

Your right cut the foliage off, remove a few inches of soil from the top and add new soil. As the new foliage grows out spray with fungicide. Toss the old soil and foliage in the garage can. Do not compost.

I had no idea heuchera rust was something we needed to worry about. I will definitely start watching out for it.

Usually most prevalent on the chartreuse green and peach colored varieties. Wet conditions and not enough air flow sets up a perfect opportunity for the rust.

my experience with this is its a soil issue. brought on by excess moisture in its environment. we get it a lot here in Washington, due to our overly wet weather. completely takes over the whole plant. even if we put a new plant in its place, it gets he same rust in a few weeks. our only hope is waiting for dry weather. even then its hit or miss. sorry to hear...
