Oh I know cause I have a few daylilies that are planted near a blue spruce tree and they need a whole lot more water than my other plants. That spruce tree takes all of the water. Seems like I can't water them enough.

Wild Horses finished blooming on Wednesday on the initial stalks. Today I saw a new scape emerging on a fan. I can't tell if it's a fan that has already had a scape or a fan that's just late. I'll take it either way!

Two I have that regularly have instant rebloom are Charmed Existence and Edge of Your Seat. In years with plenty of rain Ruby Lipstick, I Remember You, and Annabelle's Blush also have instant rebloom.

Donald- Debra, Thanks. It is great to be getting a list of Daylilies that have had instant rebloom from people's gardens. It is an important trait, in my opinion for us in the north, to have more bloom that actually looks good. I have noticed it on a couple more of my Daylilies this year. Exotic Treasure, again, has lots of instant rebloom, but the flowers continue to not open fully and appear like a tulip shape. I see plenty of pictures in the data base of fully open blooms, its in a full sun spot, plenty of water, good soil. The plant has multiplied like crazy, from 3 fans planted in 2013 to a large clump, and I counted 17 initial scapes, plus all the instant rebloom scapes. Any suggestions on what I should do with it. I have put some pollen on it, since the instant rebloom seems to be very strong with this plant.

Thanks,
Gale

Gale - I have noticed even here, in Central FL, that some of my seedling blooms will also do that. I just feel that certain cultivars were bred such that they only open fully in the heat. If it is just a little bit cooler or overcast they refuse to open up completely..... Great plants for the extreme heat in the summer!

Since yours performs so well except for opening up fully, I would indeed cross-pollinate it (both ways) with one of your best looking blooming daylilies. Hopefully, they are compatible. Or you could go all out and try pollinating with as many of your better bloomers as possible. You are bound to get your most desired traits in some of those children seeds/seedlings. Good luck!!!

Here's the first bloom on the rebloom scape of Dreams Come Through. The initial scape finished a couple of days ago.

For me the best performer in this category is Edna Selman. I have only had this plant for 3 years but it has instant re-bloom and last year had 3 lots of scapes! Of course we get lots of rain Rolling my eyes.

This year Parade of Peacocks is going to rebloom. I saw a rebloom scape this morning when I removed the skeleton of the last bloom on the first scapes. It's been there a while because it's up about 14". I hadn't expected on from this plant and hadn't been looking.

Serge Rigaud has a rebloom scape. Another one I didn't expect. I guess it's not instant rebloom since it finished initial bloom about 2 weeks ago, but it's not fall rebloom either. The rebloom stalks on Wild Horses finished up yesterday.

Moonlit Masquerade has rebloomed for me last 2 years as did Mighty Chestnut and just last year Flamingo Fantasy. I love all 3 of these and they are so far apart as far as colors. Great question though having a garden full of rebloomers would be great. So the following pics are Flamingo Fantasy and Moonlit Masquerade. In the bottom pic Mighty Chestnut is lower rh corner. Just FYI the other blooms are Mystical Rainbow.

I'm so jealous of everyone's rebloom. And you are getting them on some of the Daylilies I grow here too. The only consistent rebloomers I grow are Stella 'de oro and Stella's ruffled fingers. I get some rebloom sometimes, but never on the same plant twice. I grow in containers too, so that's probably the reason? Because our growing season is pretty long.

Mine are also in containers. It may be a one time thing for some of them. The weather has been unusual with lots of rain and less high temps. While it may be a one time performance, it still demonstrates a cultivars' ability to rebloom when conditions are right. How often do you change out the potting medium? I have to do that with some this year.

Here are some that rebloomer this year, but probably won't next year.

I usually start them out in 2 to 3 gallon containers, then pot them on to larger containers after the first or second year. Once they are in the largest container, Each spring I top dress with a mixture of compost, alfalfa pellets and milorganite until they reach the size where they need to be divided. I have too many in containers so I can never get to all that need it done before the summer heat and drought arrives. Then it's just a matter of trying to keep everything watered. They do dry out a lot. I need to downsize. Especially now sense we are getting more hot temperatures than what is our normal for here. I think they must have switched our weather on us Donald. We got your heat this year and you got our cooler temperatures. Lol

Thanks, Joy. I think it would be a stretch to refer to our weather as cool Smiling , but not much in the triple digits yet. I think I used too much coarse material in the potting mix. It drains well, but I think it has decomposed and the mix has shrunk 1-4". On some it's too much to top dress with risking burying the crown too deep. I don't worry about that in the smaller containers because they are supposed to go into larger containers as soon as they grow anyway. It's those big clay pots. I'm just going to have to dump everything out and add material to the bottom and sides, I think. The wood chips and pine bark were too large I guess, but there were other things that probably lost volume as it decomposed as well. I probably won't attempt to do them all, just those with the worst shrinkage.

I have several that qualify: Strawberry Candy (I'm sure everyone has this one:), Jedi Tequila Sunrise, Modern Design, Head Turner, Cherub's Kiss (started blooming May 23rd and is still blooming!), Evening Enchantment, South Seas, Midnight Raider, All Fired Up, and a few NoIDs.

I live in SC, so I think our growing conditions are optimum for daylilies to have ample time to have instant rebloom and what I refer to as a regular rebloom, which is a few weeks after the first scapes have faded away. Some will keep producing scapes all summer.

Here are four of my NOIDs that send up instant scapes:

Pictures 1, 2, & 3 are the same plant. Then 4 and 6 are a morning/afternoon of the same plant. Pictures 5 and 7 are obviously different plants.

I also had a couple of plants to have multiple scapes from the same fan this year, something I had not ever noticed on any daylily before--Jolyene Nichole & Leebea Orange Crush were the two I remember off the top of my head. LOC is in two beds, and both clumps had this going on.
