Several of these have sprouted up in the vicinity of the bird feeder. Anyone know what it is? When I pulled it up, it was a little thorny on the edges of the leaves.

Not sure, it reminds me of a Lactuca weed that we get here.

Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola)

Must have been in one of the bird seed mixtures I used.

I tip my hat to you. That was just a guess on my part cause it reminded me of the weed we see here at times. Green Grin!

It looks too prickly along the leaf margins for prickly lettuce. If you look at the underside of the midrib does it have spines like this?

I'm leaning more towards a sow thistle, such as:

I think my database photos are mixed up, I have some pics at the entry for Spiny Sow-thistle (Sonchus asper) as well as some at the entry for Prickly Lettuce (Lactuca serriola) and they both look like the same plant.

*Blush* Now I need help figuring out which is the correct identification.

thanks, Sue. Just went out and checked and it does not have spines on the underside of the midrib! So a sow thistle? Thank You! Thumbs up

I'm so glad @sooby Sue posted here because I did indeed have pictures in the L. serriola database that should have been in Sonchus asper so I've proposed to have them moved over.

Thanks Sue!
