Unlabelled in the Botanical garden of Rio de Janeiro. I know so little about palms, don't know where to start for searching.. Rolling my eyes.

Thanks Stefan, it could very well be an Oil Palm, but I see the seeds of Elaeis guineensis has 'spikes' in between which mine lack...
a crop:

also the leaf stems of mine son't have the spikes either, shown on some of the pictures from your link..

My first thought was possibly Pandanus: http://garden.org/plants/searc... but I really don't know Palms and have no clue if that particular species grows in Brazil.

My other thought would be Bactris but I have no clue if that grows in Brazil either.

Certainly not a Bactris sp. Lin, they do have nasty spikes that can really hurt! The genus does grow a lot in Brazil but this was in a botanical garden which has species from any similar tropical country..
I think you got it spot on Janet, once again! Hilarious!
The pictures of the seeds in your link really do look like a perfect match!
Thank you! Thumbs up
