what can be a reason for blooms not opening completely?
Not enough sunlight, not warm enough, plants just too young..? Shrug!

The weather has been not exactly great lately: only 16 - 18 degrees C Crying
And these are plants that are in my garden since the end of April, so very new.
(I was pleasantly surprised that they give flowers at all! Hurray! )

Hi Mayo, One reason could be you'll need warmer temps. 60 degrees F is not warm enough here in my zone 7A for blooms to completely open.

I agree Most daylilies like it a little warmer to completely open.

Hurray for open blooms. Our temps dropped from 87 yesterday to 67 today and at 8 a.m .and there is nothing camera worthy since most blooms are partially opened. I have noticed that my older introductions have no problem opening in cool temps.

I know what you mean since we've already had 3 days of hard rain and once again it rained last night, today and hard rain for tonight. I woke up freezing this morning and I see a lot of cupped sepals on daylilies from cool temps.
