Yesterday I received an e-mail from Judy Davisson about her three new fall intros. All three of them are late bloomers are gorgous. So I just HAD to buy all three
I have been good all year, no new daylilies for me until now.
CONGRATS RITA! Those fantastic, and I especially love MISS GOLDIE GOLD DIGGER -- love the curls! And WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS looks fabulous too -- all will be standouts in your late blooming garden! But single fans - yikes! I would probably kill those in no time!
Well, I rarely buy single fans but simetimes you have too if you want certain intros. I bet she doesn't send me single fans when they finially get here.
I am not sure what form the last one WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS would be called but the first two are deffinate unusual forms. When I first started in daylilies I would never have bought anything that looked like that. But times change. Especially as I got into late and extra late bloomers I realised that I was going to have to broaden my thinking in order to have a long bloom season. Now there are many UFOs I like (certainly not all) while I still rarely like spiders.
I've had great luck with single fans, and you're right many sellers sent double or better anyway. Of course the newest I've gotten a couple of single fans.
Ack, I have been on that drat Lily Auction AGAIN There is no such thing as just looking
So I bought three MORE late bloomers from Judy Davisson. These were from the Lily Auction. I got an intro of hers from 2010 (also shown on her website) called WHERE'D Y'ALL GO. And two of her seedlings that she listed on there. A beautiful 10 inch late flowered yellow very late bloomer and also a orangy peachy with orange yellow eyezone that is a late bloomer.
Then she also had an auction for a Ryan Gossard intro called GET R DONE, which is a stunning 9" fuller form bloom regular season bloomer that is a rebloomer. I just couldn't pass that one up as I fell for it as soon as I saw the picture and description.
So I just bought four more from Judy and that means I have seven daylilies coming from her this fall.
Very nice ones Rita. I really need some more late blooming ones myself but I have to eliminate some to make room and it is a hard decision to get rid of any.
How exciting! I just LOVE We Are the Champions. But, my eldest is getting married in Hawai'i in January. I need to stay away from these web sites, and especially the auction!
I am always looking for more good late bloomers even though there is no room left here either. But once regular season bloomers are done and most people are sorriful about no more blooms my late bloomers are putting out the blooms for me and I am still taking pictures of my daylily blooms. It makes me realise what a good decision it was to get into the lates and just how valuable they are to my garden.
Ih, Becky, that is a lovely picture. I wasn't really looking for a regular season bloomer, only the late season ones. But I just couldn't resist Get R Done. I thought it was so beautiful
Oh my Becky that is gorgeous!! I missed my road trip to visit Becky a few weeks ago-- she's got so many beauties there!! I need to get there to see them all!!!!

My order came today from Judy. TWO boxes of daylilies wow. When I opened and unwrapped them I saw why it took two boxes to ship an order of 7 daylilies. The are humungous
Here are all of them. There are eight because I got a bonus plant of EARLY SHIRLEY which is an early season bloomer.
Here are the three 2011 fall intros. Advertized as single fans each. HA-HA One of them is four fans and the other two three fans each. I just KNEW she was not gonna send single fans.
This is the largest plant. It is WHERE'D Y'ALL GO and in case you can't tell, it is 6 fans.
I can't count I started planting them, got GET R DONE planted because it is off in the side yard were I had the spot waiting. Then WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS goes in late bloomer row and I put the EARLY SHIRLY bonus aside. Then I lined up my five others because I had made the spots for them along the last of serviceberry row. I had this all figgured out before they came. So now I look and have to scratch my head as there are six instead of five. I look at all the labels again and see I have ANOTHER bonus of a Davisson late bloomer seedling This is fantastic as I am really looking to add those late bloomers and was asking Judy if she had more late bloomer seedlings. I have no idea what it looks like but I guess I will find out next year when it blooms! Now I have to go see if there is room in the row for more than I had planned
Wow, she gave you a seedling? That's fantastic -- I love that! Those are absolutely gorgeous daylilies, Rita, and I can see why you love to shop with her!
Betty, I had both some seedlings from there as well as some intros so she knows what I am looking for. I don't care if it is a non redistered seedling, I am looking for late and extra late bloomers. So Judy knows that. Plus this is not the first time I bought from her and I loaded up on the late bloomers last time also.
