Hello fellow gardeners 😊,
I need help! I live in the area of Lubbock Texas and am wanting to plant a fall garden but, my current garden of herbs and vegetables have been planted with purchased soil in raised beds. It's been quite an investment 😕.
My question is, "Can you use the soil here just tilled to plant or should I amend the soil with anything?"
I'm used to Iowa gardens, but refuse to give up here in Texas!
Any advice is welcomed!!!!!
Never stops growing 😎

I had to google what you are gardening in.

Except for the caliche... I'd trade soil with you in a minute!

I'm gardening in the Sandhills...

The first description that jumped out at me on google was loess... That's the good stuff!

I don't know what you have in your specific yard, but purchasing soil sounds like a mistake.

People here in GA get conned into putting worthless "topsoil" on top of their gardens too, so don't feel too bad.

I'd suggest amending with the compost that you made out of the weeds and other organics this year while you've been gardening, and then add any horse/ cow poop that you can lay your hands on.

Maybe a primer?

By the way...

Welcome @mccreates! The best information about your soil and what and when to plant will comes from a local source as close as a phone call or a few click on your computer. Get in touch with your local Master Gardeners. They are a great source of good information. There are usually a couple of them manning the phones each day. They can answer your questions and send you information about soil amendments, etc.
