hi all,

today I have my first flower on Dan's White Lie.

I'ts supposed to be a 'near white self', but I guess he.. uhm, lied about that Sad
Thumb of 2015-07-13/Mayo62/0a8c85

Will it turn more white as the plants settle/mature?
It was planted late April.

Thank You!

Mayo - I doubt it will turn white, but it could get lighter with future blooms. Time will tell.

What I have noticed with mine is that often they get darker in color, but that is not to say yours will. Patterns can change quite a bit too from year 1 to year 3, as well as teeth and ruffles. 3 years growing a particular plant can really be an eye-opener.

Something else I have noticed with most of my blooms ....

Early morning before the sun hits them, they either are darker or lighter in color. Once the sun hits them, most often have a noticeable color-change. See my post showing a Buddy Hudson seedling that changed colors somewhat after the sun hit it:

Does anyone have a photo of the actual Dan's White Lie bloom? I couldn't find one.

well if it is supposed to be near white, it isn't even close. I have some near whites and they really are nearly white. I have some that are really white, not creamy. But that pic is just flat out yellow.
What color does the AHS description say?

What are your whitest daylilies?

I've heard a lot of people say Joan Senior is one of the whitest daylilies available, so I purchased it. When I saw Heavenly Angel Ice and it's parent, Frozen Mert, at a daylily garden recently, I could have sworn that both of those were whiter than Joan Senior.

Yes, I'm doubting it is Dan's White Lie too... Sighing!

Here is a picture from the nursery website:
Thumb of 2015-07-13/Mayo62/f0726f

AHS states it should be a 'near white self'

It wás raining and cloudy all day, but still... canary yellow is not going to turn into near white
Thumb of 2015-07-13/Mayo62/fb9056

I'm going to email the nursery and ask their opinion
(I réally don't like plain yellow flowers... Thumbs down )

What a bummer, I'm sorry. Yellow is my favorite color and yet I pretty much refuse to have it in my daylily garden because I'm so sick of Stella D'Oro everywhere. I feel your distaste for plain yellow daylilies, is what I'm trying to say. Smiling

you know, now that I've got it, it will probably grow on me Rolling my eyes.

Yellow is just not my favorite color in the garden, so when I dó have a yellow I want it to at least have an exiting pattern or interesting shape... Sighing!

I'll wait for the nursery to answer me and than perhaps I can give it to someone who will really appreciate it Thumbs up

If you end up wanting to keep it, putting it in with some red mums or some 'Summer Nights' delphinium. Then it'll pop!

I agree It is very pretty yellow daylily.
