I guess the colored paper clips looked fun to play with. They are almost four, six and seven, none of them will own up to it, lol. Bold Heritage was the only Daylily to have good pod set for me this year, most will be unknown for pollen parent now, but they did make a colorful paper clip chain Grumbling

That would drive me mad if that happened to me, particularly this year, as it's my first year ever. I suppose as time goes on and I have seedlings coming out my ears, I would be less upset. Sorry that happened to you, how disappointing! They would have really enjoyed and done a number on mine, too! I have mostly colored metallic wires on mine, so they are shiny!...which now makes me hope that none of the neighbor kids driving by decide to have fun with my tagged seed pods--most of my daylilies are right down by the sidewalk! Sad So far so good though.

I can honestly say that was a concern for me too. My granddaughters immediately noticed the paper clips when they were last visiting. But not to worry though .... the rat took not only the paper clips but many of my seed pods, too .... and ATE many of them. Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling

Yeah. Sometimes the unexpected happens. Good to have a sense of humor. Whistling Rolling my eyes. Smiling

I agree .... name some of those seedlings after the girls! Thumbs up Thumbs up Thumbs up

All three know better, which is why they wouldn't fess up to my wife when I texted her, I'm sure they all were involved. They are currently shopping with their mom, they will get a friendly reminder when they get home. Maybe I will have them help pull weeds nodding They love that Rolling on the floor laughing I like the idea of naming a seedling after each girl, lets see if i can get three ornery looking seedlings.

Gale, I guess that changes things to a Grumbling Grumbling Grumbling if they knew that they weren't supposed to do that! Pulling weeds would be a very good punishment! I remember getting stuck with that punishment more times than I care to admit!

I'm hoping for ornery seedlings too!

LOL, cute story, better than my story for sure. I had a mother and daughter walk by while I was sitting on my back porch. Some of my flowers sticking through the fence I had pollinated and had paper clips on them. The little girl, about 8 years old, proceeded to remove the paper clips from my crosses while the mom watched her. I spoke up and said please do not remove them, they are there for a reason. The mom never said a word to her daughter and they just walked away still holding my paper clips. I wasn't too happy. Angry

can you use marker or nail polish ON the pod? then there is nothing to move.

Would that make the pod more subject to removal that the clips?

Possibly a way to color code each pollen parent. Interesting idea. Would the nail polish stay on as the pod expands, grows, and then turns brown as it ripens?
