I've had this lily around as long as I can remember, going back at least twenty years. I can't remember for sure where I got it, except possibly from one of the older mail order nurseries like Henry Fields, Gurney's or even Jackson & Perkins. Although it is nothing exceptional, I keep it because in "my eyes" it is gorgeous, is fragrant and pulls through some of the worst weather extremes. (Including this blistering heat & drought!) I have a hard time discarding anything unless it's dead. After all these years I simply call it an unknown rubrum hybrid since it looks something like the species rubrum. It has grown to seven (7) feet in good years with 8 to 10 large outward/downward facing flowers. I'm posting it here where more knowledgeable heads than mine might know something about it. If so, it would be nice to know after 20 years.

Leon,i have many variations of rubrum,and 1 or 2 look just the same a bit of extra reflexation on this one but very much the same

I've never seen a speciocum Rubrum get that tall. Anthony, do they get that tall for you?

Leon, how big are the blooms? It's truly spectacular! And has perennialized so beautifully, definitely a keeper!

Neal, Blooms on this NOID are much, much larger than Rubrum Species. The species rarely grow more than 3-4 ft. in height with blooms half the size of this NOID. Here are some pictures that are eye-level with me of the NOID. I would guess the flowers measure about 7 or even 8 inches across, and the petals are not as tightly reflexed as the species. The species seem to nod toward the ground, and I actually held the bottom center flower up to get that picture.
