Of Cowpeas, Butterbeans and Okra

August here in Georgia is tough on vegetables.Triple-digit temps drive us all to seeking a little shade. The spring vegetables are long gone, summer vegetables are going into intermission, snd corn is in the freezer. But there are a few that love it, the foremost being cowpeas, butter beans, and okra.

Just went through my seed stash over the weekend, and would like to plant a 4x8' bed of Lady cream peas, Top Pick Pinkeye Purple Hull Peas (TPPEPHPs), and Texas 8 Cream peas. We're heading into triple digits next week, but, the weather has been fairly tolerable. Won't get our first frosts until mid- to late-November, or, if it holds out, mid-December.

All the varieties I named above average 60-65 DTMs. Smiling

Thanks! Thank You!

Linda, The yield will be cut drastically when maturing in October, but those late peas will be delicious , just not as many of them. Top Pick will be the quickest to the finish line.
