I can't imagine that I've never encountered, nor heard of, this plant...aloysia virgata aka Sweet Almond Bush, Incense Bush.Just saw it mentioned in the fragrant plant forum and I think I need it. Surprisingly, it is grown by growers who distribute to all kinds of nurseries down here that I frequent. I suppose if I'd never heard of it, I just didn't know it if I saw it...

Has anyone grown it?

No but the name sounded familiar, sure enough, I have it on my wish list on DG. here is the PlantFile for it, along with some nice photos and comments.

Well, we had to make a quick run to San Diego and so stopped at two of my fave nurseries who supposedly get orders from Magic Growers (who distributes it down here). Neither had it, of course, I have a feeling it's one of those catch-22 plants, people don't know it 'cause it's not widely available, if it were more widely available, etc. etc. Of course, both of those nurseries have lemon verbena....neither of the people I spoke to knew what it was and one of those was the owner...sigh. I hate to special order it. Need to check and see if there are more wholesalers around down here growing it.

I have to fertilize my stuff. Everything I have looked in better shape at the nursery, of course....well taken care of. I saw neomarica caerulea in a one gal pot with a flower stalk 4 ft tall. I have never seen that. I have that plant. I've just recently brought it over to the house because it's been so neglected. But I've never seen one with a stalk that tall, 'specially in one gallon. Their vitex in 5's, the same size as mine, were flowering...so this week, I continue fertilizing everything. I have stuff that's been in pots so long, they get planted and really take off, so happy to get out of pots...lol

Sue, this is a good time to look for it since it's in flower now...you know, nurseries more likely to have it now. I love the scent....one of those scents that seem more 'resinous' than sweet. Vaguely familiar, but can't quite place it.

Got one! 4" pot on clearance, $1.99! Even had little blooms on it. I know it's small but I will pot it up and wait. Thumbs up

Well I have been looking for one for years. And no luck. We do not have the cool nurseries you guys have. We are just a small area of zone 6 and most of the nurseries do not carry plants that are tender, and also, most nurseries don't even know what they are.

If you find a mail order one somewhere, let me know. I have 3 other people that want it.

Well...that's luckier than me...mine was $25 for a 5 gallon. I'd much rather have found one for $1.99!

wcgypsy, you didn't say where you found it. Do you ever stop at Plant Depot, in San Juan Capistrano when passing thru? They tend to carry a variety of things one can't find in the run of the mill nursery.

Thanks, Carol. Yes...love Plant Depot. When we're up that way I usually stop at Brita's, Roger's and P.D. Found the aloysia at Green Thumb in San Marcos. I knew it was grown by Magic Growers and all of the above mentioned nurseries buy from M.G. out of Pasadena, so I had hopes of finding it at one of those nurseries. I try not to go looking much anymore......the more I see, the more I want...lol..
