It doesn't look like Hydrangea aspera..
I had a typo in the title, it has to be Hydrangea paniculata.. there is also a second photo of the bloom of the same plant in question..

I'm open to it being moved wherever you think it should be moved to, but it was labeled as Hydrangea aspera by the staff at the Stephen F. Austin University arboretum and they for the most part are very knowledgeable about their plants. I'd be surprised if they mislabeled one of their specimens.

I just based my id questioning on seeing so many pictures of H. aspera that doesn't look like your plant, Dave..
