There was a bit of a coup over at the Farming Cubit, actually lead in part by me, and we decided to move our monthly chat threads over here. So here we go - August and what's new? We're having the tires on the 4wd cab tractor loaded. Stan had to change a tube on one a couple of weeks ago, so it needed it and then the other went flat last Friday, so one repair and two loads, who knows how much that will be. I will soon enough as Stan is up chasing heifers to get in the headlocks for breeding. What fun.

Just a note, please feel free to start threads when the spirit moves you. Most anything is fair game as long as it works its way around to farming.

I hope you are feeling better Kathleen. It is so difficult to do anything if you have a back pain.
I go to the Chiropractor once a week and that keeps my old back in good shape.

I was staking trees and another storm just came up. We have had over 4 inches of rain in two days and it just will not stop. The tomato crop needs picking and it is too wet to get into the field. The neighbor has a crew of about 25 guys sitting in trucks waiting for the rain to stop so his tomatoes do not rot on the vine. If it isn't no rain then it is nothing but rain. Confused

You all have a great day. I think I may build an ark. Glare

Neil, I have missed you. Are the riots they talk about on TV anywhere near your home? I sure hope not.

Love your profile pic. It's beautiful.

I have been cleaning out the gardens today. The yield this year is diappointing but the eggplants are just starting. I need to get the peas in for fall.

The horses are all doing good but we are still trying hard to get weight on our buckskin mare. Going to try a 5 day wormer then go from there. She is healthy but skinny. She was a rescue and had been starved for years.

So, hurricane is gone north, JB, how did you fair? And anyone else in the path?

The news said this morning that the price of gas actually went down, why then did the price of corn spike over the weekend?

We had some clouds and a good stiff breeze, cooler temperatures. It was a late summer day. I got out for a bit, picked three tomatoes, a zuch and a couple of carrots. The beans have gone on to making seed - way too ripe to eat fresh, so I'll just gather up the seed for next year.

Stan did some haying Saturday, chopped a huge load to put up the silo and plans to get a bit more this week . He baled all of the second cutting up on the hill, put a load in the mow, gave Jess part of a load to sell to her Ag teacher and sold a load to the neighbor across the road for his buggy horse.

I'm glad the hurricane did you no harm. We would happily welcome one here. We are much more prepared to weather a storm than we are to survive this drought.

Wow, that was some wind................their are 8 guys here now with a cherry picker, two trucks, a kabota, a shredder and a flat bed cutting down 6 big locust that were to be cut down before the storm, but it did not happen. Now they are all damaged and one was completely down. Fell between two barns and did not even scratch it. The big top was way out in the tree field and it broke about four feet off the ground and fell away from all the buildings. There is a God!
What a mess. We were out of TV, Electric, Internet and phone for 19 hours and there are still over 300,000 people still out. We are so lucky to be near the Joint Bases because the Military gets top treatment of course and we are on the lines with them. We are about a mile down the road from them.
Our poor neighbor has about 15 acres of tomatoes that are just rotting on the vine, the trucks can not get into the field to pick up baskets and the men are picking them green and half ripe just to get some money back. They have ugly marks on them, how nhe expects to sell them is beyond me. He should just plow them under and take a loss on taxes. Bad PR for his veggies trying to sell them this way. Some people.
Thanks for thinking of me. I will see you all later. There is so much to do here just now I must go. My kids both got called in to work, my daughter had to find a place for 200 racehorses the day of the storm, they evacuated the racetrack due to flooding, now there are still so many roads closed because the storm took a northerly path and hit people who were not as prepared as we were being so close to the ocean, and those poor souls are out of electric and trees are down and houses are flooded up to the second floor from some of the creeks and streams. Their places must be a mess. We were so lucky this time. Gotta go. JB
