I volunteer at the local elementary school where we have a garden. It truly is a great feeling to know I've "passed along" a bit of knowledge every week to some kids who may or may not get another chance to garden in their lives.
Please, if you live in the South where we can garden through a lot of the school year, take some time to find out if your local school has a garden, and sign up to volunteer there. You'll be amazed what you can teach a bunch of kids, and also what you'll learn! We learned early on that kids in Florida don't know how to put on gloves - well, it's not cold enough to need them very often here . . .
