Hurray! I start daily watching for ripe fruit and veg. My apples are coming and I already finished my first lot of apple butter; 9 jars of my favorite spread. My cantaloupes are near ready and my tomatoes have been supplying me for a while. I'll soon be putting up the tomatoes for winter. Any day now I'll have squash, green beans and ample cucumbers. I enjoy flowers but the produce is always the big treat and makes up for the flower gardens that are starting to look a little tired.

I agree, love the turn from summer to fall. I've had enough of too-hot days and could use a bit of damp in the air again. I thought I'd try making applesauce this year with some Fireball whiskey added. My inherited apple tree is some sort of a translucent and pretty bland, so thought that might pep it up a bit.

I have to buy my apple butter at the grocery store. Sighing! I love it.
