I finally learned the trick to photographing butterflies. It's easy if they are standing still.

Kind of like this sleeping ,, This body length is at least five times smaller , than a blue .
tiny , then there is Super tiny ,
then there is this micro moth

I nearly over-looked the moths -

This was tonight but , this is the same that was on the window last month
A good 3 inches across this one ,





As if the butterflies are not nervous enough , This is a butterfly chasing , eating , little mother

My dog, Plato likes to chase BF's -
2 in the alley, one's a Buckeye, the other a skipper.

great photos, everyone, and Jim what a sweet photo of mom and babies!! makes me realize it's been a long time since I've had a litter of kittens in the house. Lucky you to be able to enjoy this now!!

If a mantid has to occasionally eat a hummingbird (was that on this thread?), a mamma kitty has to occasionally get a butterfly....

I honestly have no clue what it was. I took 11 photos and picked the best two so someone could hopefully identify it. Thanks for the ID; I shall call her Mrs. Cloud.

That looks something like this.

Phaon Crescents continue to emerge. It's been really rainy here but I managed to release this one in between showers.



And this little Skipper was catching a snack.



In sad news, I've lost four Polydamas. One definitely had that virus they get and I suspect the others did, too. I've also lost several of the smaller Black ST cats. I suspect the virus got some of them, too. I hope I didn't spread it from container to container. I'm generally really good about washing my hands - they get so nasty when cleaning the tanks!

Nice photos Melanie, so sorry about the cats. Just remember that in the wild only 1 to 2% make it so I imagine the virus is just as bad out there in nature.

One at noon today .. a rainy overcast day here , this was here for a few hours ,then on it's way
The ones passing through are more interested in the neighbors Zinnia now ,Especially in the earlier hours while the kiddies are away at school ,, They like a quiet lunch ,
Monarch
