How did I miss buying Wendy's Wish this spring? I love the plant, its performance has always been great, and it bloomed until frost. Love the color as well. I'll make a note now to buy it in 2016. Thanks for the reminder.

I really like this one, enough to have bought three of them so I could have it in three different parts of the garden. The first couple of years I had it, it would die back in winter, but it always came back in spring. It didn't die back at all last winter, though, which was exceptionally warm here. It looked as good all through winter as it had the rest of the year.

I wouldn't call it drought resistant, but it's not a water hog either. It also has a less pronounced sage aroma than many other salvias, which sometimes smell too strong for my taste.

Wendy's Wish is a definite winner with us and the hummingbirds here also!! I agree with @Marilyn. It is definitely worth growing as an annual as it gets so big and flowers so much and so long!! I understand there are 2 more now- "Ember's Wish" and "Love and Wishes", which both are going on my ever growing list of "wants"

I'm growing all three; Wendy's Wish, Ember's Wish and Love and Wishes. I've Ember's Wish and Love and Wishes in a container together and Wendy's Wish in its own container with some Marigolds. Next year they all get their own container as I think they'll do the best without competition.

@Marilyn
You really must have lots of containers and garden space- that is awesome!! I have lots of space left to fill since we only started expanding our plants last year. We don't have as much room for containers. We have 2 larger containers and 2 small ones on front porch and 3 large on back patio. None as large as some of yours. I bet those 3 look very nice together!! I agree with @zuzu - that must be some container with those 3!!

'Ember's Wish' & 'Love and Wishes' are in a 24 inch container together. I noticed that they're not getting enough sun and they're not as big, as I would like. Next year - different sunnier spot and their own containers.

'Wendy's Wish' is in a container tub, the ones you see inside stores in the storage or laundry isle. I've a bunch of container tubs that DH drilled 8 holes at the bottom that I'm using outside. I've a few small marigolds growing in the container and next year nothing else with it.

No, not a lot of space. We've a small sub-division lot.

We've a side entry driveway and I'm using the back space (where there is another garage door) to put approx. 30-33 containers. 13 containers on the patio. 5 in front of the house. 5 in the backyard on top of cement pavers. 4 inside a bed.

It is not hardy here either, as most of the ones I grow, but I just get a new plant every year. Thumbs up

I live in The Netherlands zone 8. I have this Salvia Wendy's Wish now for three years. Last year I planted it in the garden after taking some cuttings. We had a very mild winter but did loose the plant. The cuttings I took did very well and have these plants now in pots on the north east side of the house. The plants look lovely with about 5, 6 hours of sun. Taking cuttings of all Salvia's is very easy with always good results.
An other Salvia I love is Salvia indigo spires. I did put this plant with pot and all in the yard and this Salvia made it through our mild winter and looks great.

I've had Wendy's Wish for 3-4 years now. Got it for the hummingbirds and they do indeed use it. So do the big old bumble bees. I have one clump in a large container and 3 others (that stay smaller for some reason) in the ground. They all bloom pretty much year round here for me. I love the color of the blooms of this plant! It is a different color than that of other salvias. The one in the container is quite large and blooms profusely. The 3 ground plants also bloom but not quite as showy as the container plant. I've watched the hummingbirds and bumble bees go to every single bloom for nectar, so it is a great nectar plant also!

I give it 2 thumbs up! Thumbs up Thumbs up
