Although cultivars don't generally come true from seed, it appears that this one does. I have added this to my want list.

'Mahogany Splendor' is actually a seed-strain from PanAmerican Seed. It has especially pretty leaves that are more finely cut than some H. acetosella seed-strains.

I just recently researched it a bit because I got a giant plant at a nursery's tropical plants clearance sale for only 3 dollars. The plant is bigger and wider than me and barely fit in the car. It's also a little prickly which made it extra fun to wrestle! Hilarious! I know I could just grow it from seed, but a pack of seeds would likely cost more than what I paid. I'm hoping for some blooms this fall and seed set. I'm planning to taxi it to the garage, if needed, on cold nights. If I succeed, then I'll put your name on some, Jay. Smiling

Jay, do you happen to know if this species will self-pollinate in the absence of pollinators?

The reason that I ask is that I discovered that this plant has been blooming away in the garage without my noticing it or pollinating it. I'm hoping to catch it blooming and "play bee" soon. Smiling

I have no idea. I would think playing bee is your best bet.
