Specifically, people who have grown many cactus from seed and had them survive as they can be very tricky to grow from seed.

Keith, I am far from being an expert but I have grown cactus from seeds before. I was most successful with Cereus peruvianus. My friend gave me a fruit off of it and asked for my opinion. I wonder if I could grow any of the many tiny black seeds that was in this white mush. After washing it and setting the seeds in cactus soil in a covered container, I was lucky to get about 50 to germinate. Most I grew into 3 to 4 inch size and gave away. My first time with cactus. These cactus can take much more watering than any other cactus that I ever owned.

In the future I might have some seed to give away, but of cacti that aren't as water tolerant. Cacti seedlings do need a lot of water to germinate and at first but after a few months too much rots them, it's a delicate balance figuring out.

I found that out on seedlings of Hechtia and Dyckia platyphylla seeds. They all germinated and filled the whole saucer tray. Very tiny green seedling. It took 4 months for them to get 1/8 inch high with two tiny leaves. Then one over watering and they all died by the next day. Went from hundreds to zero in less than a day. I was disappointed with how very slow they grew. It would take years just to get a plant 1 inch high.
If you plan on growing from seeds, you must be willing to spend a great deal of time with them with hardly no growth improvement. Enough water only to keep the soil evenly moist, not wet. Best to let the roots dig for the water and have a dry top. Takes skill to do that. Good luck.

Ive been growing Gymnocalycium Mihanovichii from seed, almost a year and they are just shy of 2 inches, they do well now but at first it was touch and go. I've been cross pollinating some colored ones and have seeds developing so I'm trying to see if anyone has the time and skill to grow some as they do take time LOL and it's not often I get viable seed it's a treat!

My big problem was my health went to h**l and everything was left go. Most of my Sansevieria loved it as well as most Euphorbia but some of the young seedlings didn't fare so well. Our spring was too wet as always and our fall too dry.
