A few years ago I had a beautiful solid pink lily, a very clear pink color. It's the pink of Chiffon Morn petunia, Bonica rose, geranium striatum sanguinem. It died and I've been looking for it ever since. But photos are so unreliable!

In the fall of 2009 I thought I'd found them. Lily Algarve. But the only place I could find to buy them required that I get 30 for $29. So I planted all thirty in a fallow place in the veggie garden. The spring of 2010 only 3 came up, I figure voles. Those 3 were bitten off by a woodchuck. So I bought another 30 in the fall of 2010. Finally one has bloomed and it's way too dark a pink. So my quest begins again.

Can anyone help me replace my beautiful pink lily?

TIA

No. That's the problem. I no longer have the lily, and pictures "lie." The pictures I saw of Algarve looked right, but in real life it's much too dark, as an example.

Thanks. But none of those are my mystery lily because none of them are a solid, unvariegated color, even if the photos might not replicate the pink perfectly. I do appreciate your efforts, though.

LAS, is this the lily you are looking for? Van Engelen is offering Algarve in their fall catalog.

This photo shows the color I want, but when the Algarve I bought bloomed they were quite a bit darker... tending toward maroon, although not maroon. But this gives me hope - from the catalogue:

"This luscious beauty opens deep vibrant pink and matures to warm satin pink." I went out and looked again and, indeed, it is lighter now. Maybe it will be just what I want when it "matures." Maybe I only remember the perfect part of the cycle, not the darker younger blossoms. I'll let you know.

My new "Tiny Athlete" lily has just bloomed, and it is the exact right color and consistency (no variagation). But, of course, it is tiny. Either my memory is faulty or Algarve is not quite it. Keep the suggestions coming if you can!

I've decided that Algarve is, indeed, my sought after lily. It took a week, but it did "mature to a warm satin pink," as described in the Van Engelein catalogue. And the second plant that bloomed turned that nice color much quicker. I'M SO HAPPY!!Thumb of 2011-07-09/LAS14/a725c7
