I purchased H. David Kirchhoff in 2007. I kept records of branching and bud count in 2009, so that year I had 2 scapes. Both had two-way branching. One scape had 6 blooms, the other had 2.
Most years, the blooms were splotchy and misshapen. This picture from 2010 shows that it had grown from 2 to 4-5 fans.
In 2011, it did okay. I take a lot of pictures, but this is one that I don't have a lot of because #1 there weren't a lot of blooms, and #2 the blooms weren't very pretty. When it does have a good bloom, it is beautiful!
I noticed the rust resistant score of 4.4 in the database. I don't believe I've seen a lot of rust on DK, because after a discussion on another thread (
The thread "Rust Talk 2015" in
Daylilies forum) about spider mite damage, maybe that is all I've been seeing all along. What few pictures I have do not show evidence of rust.
I divided and moved it in 2014 to see if it would do better. This year's blooms were only slightly better. I would expect it to take at least another year to settle in, because it has not reached it's specified height of 26", but I now have 13 fans.
Maybe this is just one of those dl's that takes more TLC than I give my plants. I have been thinking about taking this one out of my garden, but I do love the color, so will give it another year or so.
