Welcome to the iris forum, 5sillydogs! me too on the pinks, Jan, and with any class of iris. sigh..... and yes, Leslie is quite right, I do love the little guys. I have about 40 MDB's which would not do great in my area but most are potted and get extra care and a colder winter because I can move them about. I have a few more than 400 SDB's and with all that I have I still have some unique ones on my list that I must have.... both new and historic. I have about 50 IB's as they bloom between the SDB's and the taller irises. I have over 40 MTB's as they are just such a charming miniature form of a TB. I will be adding a few more of them probably. And then to the Tall ones, the kings of the iris show, I have about 250. There are so many of these that I want due to color combinations along with new forms such as ruffles. I must use some common sense when adding more irises. The only problem is.... irises inspire many things but common sense is not one of them.

I am limited with space but I am creative with how to carve out more areas in my patch to plant more irises. I am also becoming limited in the energy it takes to maintain a healthy iris garden and that will be the main thing that dictates what, or how many, I will be adding. That being said, when it comes to irises I do not show much restraint or common sense. I go over my budget, buy more than I have room for, beg from friends shamelessly and continue to add to an obscenely enormous wish list. But I am in good company here on the ATP iris forum where I am completely understood by like individuals that share my views wholeheartedly. smiles

Lestv said:I agree. And while many of us oh and aw over the same iris, we also have very unique tastes. I love Burseen's space agers, Paul and Mary Ann love pink iris, I like broken color iris, Mary Ann hates them; some collect Keppel iris (beautiful but not good growers here so I don't collect many), many collect Blyth iris because there are so many lovely iris produced by Blyth (any disagreements??!!). Some, like Bonnie and Lucy love the dwarfs and medians best. So it really IS a matter of personal taste at the end of the day. And those that will grow well for you will inform your future buying decisions.

Very well said, Leslie
