Schreiners was the first company that I ever ordered Irises from (way back in the mid-70's) -- so I had a soft spot for them. They eliminated that a few years back when I bought Starship Enterprise -- by the fall of that year, the rhizome had died -- when I called them to ask for a replacement, I was told "alright, we'll send you one but don't ask again". What?????? No problem, you can be sure of that!!!

Last Fall at the end of the rot season I called them to report the 13 of two large orders that had died. They did mark them down for replacement this Spring but they did ask me a bunch of questions about sun, soil, bla bla bla. I told them I planted your rhizomes, this isn't rocket science!! I have another 7 to report this Spring. Man I hope they don't give me any grief. So they do sometimes send out mislabeled rhizomes. And here I thought it was me and I simply lost track of a name!

Often a family established business is great to transact with. Each bit of customer growth is a milestone and celebrated as an achievement. Once the business has passed down two or three generations the business often becomes a way just to make a living. Might as well buy irises from Sears....... if they sold irises.

Schreiners is such a large organization that they use seasonal field workers. I am sorry that they are having problems. Starship Enterprise seems to be a rather poor grower. It has a sibling which is not quite as spectacular but a better grower. I am forgetting the name. I hope it comes to me.

Would that be Lightshine or Rainbow High? They have a similar look.

Right, Lightshine is the name I was looking for. Memory is not what it was. Not as unusual as Starship Enterprise, but I would rather have it in the garden if I was growing more TBs as it is a better grower with the same heritage.

I did not see a mention of one in this thread (just me being blind no doubt), but two good ones currently very active are Robin Shadlow and Margie Valenzuela. Robin sells irises from "Two Sisters" and Margie through "Nola's." You can find them on the iris vendors list at top of the iris forum page.

I made a list of the Iris I wanted a few weeks ago looking at Napa's 2015 catalog. Tonight I DID NOT see Great Balls of Fire on their 2016 catalog, along with three other Iris I was going to buy.
The other day when I made my Stout order they were already sold out of Great Balls of Fire. Soooo..... Don't snooze or you might loose
