It looks like you have 32-33 seeds in that pod, is that right? Nice! Are you hybridizing for shorties, too? I have plenty of tall cultivars in my garden, but I'm really trying for daylilies that will go nicely in the front of the landscaping rows instead of the back, plants under 20". As such, I currently have Little Grapette in my hybridizing program, too. Thumbs up

Yes, 32 seeds. This is the very first year I started doing this. Pods from other daylilies had fewer seeds (even down as low as 1). But this one looked so pretty when I opened it. They just laid out there sitting nicely in there little sections, I just had to take a picture of it. There was one other pod from Cranberry Cove X Siloam Double Classic that had 40 seeds. That was my highest. But I would say that 6, 8, 10, 12, and into the teens was average. I'm not necessarily hybridizing for anything in particular. Just playing I guess. Got a little carried away as I now have about 2000 seeds. I had to kill some more grass so I will have a place to plant some seedlings (hope, hope, hope) next year. I'm reading as much as I can find here at ATP as to getting them to germinate, what to plant them in, lights, temps, fertilize, etc. So much to learn. Pollination was easy, collecting seeds was fun. Getting them to get growing will be more of a challenge. I've been following the form regarding a possible seed exchange starting up here at ATP. I've already promised many of my seeds to an area daylily grower, but may hang on to more than anticipated to join in on the seed exchange.

I may exchange with you, I have some decision-making to do with my 2-3k seeds as well.

I look forward to see how the exchange goes. Dave has some wonderful programming going on here. I'm sure he will come up with something easy to use. I definitely will exchange with you if I happen to have anything that you think worth while. As I said, I'm new to this and didn't put a lot of thought into who I crossed with who.

@petruske It would be wonderful of you to show us the eventual outcome of your cross, Sue. Thank you for sharing that classy photo. Now we can dream up some pictures of what that match would result in.

Good Luck with your plantings.

Here are pictures of seven blooms (first year bloom) that came from six of the seedlings. Six of the 12 seeds I planted bloomed this year. The fifth and sixth pictures are the same seedling.

They are all so different! I haven't seen any blooms on any of my yellow-gold/purple crosses, but seeing yours is reassuring...there is always the concern of muddy coloring, but yours look nice.

It was my first time dabbing pollen. I didn't know that certain colors could produce muddy colors. A lot of my seedlings didn't have the pollen parent recorded and I did see a few that were odd colors and a couple were quite pretty colors that I have difficulty describing (didn't even take pictures that show the color correctly).
