Lin, my Dad is a woodturner and primarily makes bowls, pepper mills, pens, lidded boxes, etc.

Someone on Facebook said it's Bishopwood (Bischofia javanica). That's a Category I invasive in Florida so if that's what it was, I'm glad it was removed. Do any of you think that's it? I looked at some pictures, but I'm not very good at comparing by photos.

There are a couple Tree ID groups on Facecook. You might try there? Not sure why 2.
I agree it looks a lot like a Bursera and the leaf looks like Gumbo Limbo. Yes Mellie - I grow Bursera too :-)
I have a Fagaroides (bonsai) and Gumbo from seed - also for bonsai.

Melanie, It does also look like Bishopwood, I think even moreso than the Gumbo Limbo and those tiny little fruits/seeds on the ground certainly bear a good resemblance to the fruit of Bishwood: http://www.bing.com/images/sea...

I missed the pic above of the seeds on the ground. Though I am not familiar with the Bishop wood tree, looking at that Bing pic far too many similarities. My gut says Lin is right.

Thanks guys, I'm sure Dad will get a chunk of it, but I haven't heard what he plans to make yet. In a lot of cases, they'll make something for the homeowner out of the tree, especially when the tree had to be taken down because of insurance, disease, lightning strikes, etc.
