Well I threw all advice out of the wind and bought myself a Coelogyne pandurata (before I could read anything you guys posted lol) and it arrived yesterday. I'll post a pic later.

Now I need to find a nice piece of wood

Wishing you much beginners luck! It usually works, there are times when a little knowledge gets in the way of success.

Congrats on your Coelogyne, Lee-Roy!
I have been growing Coelogyne Burfordiense for quite some years, which is almost identical to pandurata and often mascerades in the trade for it. I just picked up a small pandurata, so I could see the difference in their blooms. I never let my plants dry out and they like it nice and warm, with medium light. So you should be fine!
I would not mount it to wood, they get HUGE!!!! Some people grow them in rain gutter type contraptions, since they like to spread lateral. Or a longish window box is a good pot to grow them in. Looking at that space you posted, a window box looks perfect there.
