Thought this thread might be a good place to put some references. Click on the following ATP member pages and read what they've written on herbs:

Bonehead - an inspiring thread about her herb garden - The thread "My herb garden" in Vegetables and Fruit forum (I just t-mailed her for permission to ask to have this thread moved to this forum)

Gemini_Sage - What Herbs Grow in your Cottage Garden - The thread "What herbs grow in your Cottage Garden?" in Cottage Gardening forum

Horseshoe - herbal aids to rooting cuttings:
-- Cinnamon - http://garden.org/ideas/view/H...
-- Willow - http://garden.org/ideas/view/H...

Sharon - many articles from days in her early childhood when her Grandma was passing along her herbal knowledge - http://garden.org/users/profil...

Trish - herb spiral - http://garden.org/ideas/view/d...

ATP threads on herbs:
-- Top 25 herbs - http://garden.org/ideas/view/d...

I'm sure there are other people and resources on herbs around here I haven't met yet, so anything anyone would like to add here would be much appreciated.

There are other resources that would be great here, as well.

Edited to add Gemini_Sage's thread above

There are books and references that focus primarily on uses of herbs, and then there are some with a certain turn of phrase or chosen word that capture the magic of herbs as well as their usefulness. Following are some digitalized old herbals, as well as more recent references I hope will be enjoyed:

Rosetta E. Clarkson, Green Enchantment, The Magic Spell of Gardens - http://babel.hathitrust.org/cg...

Mrs. M. Grieve, A Modern Herbal - http://botanical.com/botanical... - During WWII, when Germany blockaded England, medical supplies could not get through, so old herbal remedies were resorted to. Herbal knowledge in this book is not current.

Henriette's Herbal Home Page - http://www.henriettes-herb.com... - there is a wealth of old, classical herbal texts that is digitalized here. Additionally, Henriette's knowledge and experience are informative.

Books I use regularly

Anything written by Rosemary Gladstar - lots of recipes for teas, tonics, oils, salves, tinctures
Encyclopaedia of Herbs, Nico Vermeulen - dense reference book with a photo of every herb covered, brief summary of uses
The Rodale Herb Book - older book I've used for years, good growing and use information
The Complete Book of Herbs, Lesley Bremness - several photos of each herb (whole plant, dried leaves, seed, root), culinary and cosmetic recipes, dried arrangements, themed gardens
Plants of the Pacific NW Coast, Pojar & MacKinnon - good info on how native tribes used local plants

Thanks for those book suggestions - some are new to me. I have others to add, as well, plus a section on sources of herbs, so if y'all have any favorite sources I'd love to include them here as well.

I just added Gemini_Sage's thread, "What Herbs are Growing in your Cottage Garden?"

Will return to do some fine tuning.
