Having small areas dedicated to herbs in the garden sometimes works out.

I have a large herb garden, divided into several specific sections where I group herbs for a specific purpose - culinary, aromatic, medicinal, female complaints, repellent herbs, relaxation, and my personal favorite the magical section (based on old folklore). It's been a fun and constant learning process for me. Here's a link to some photos on a thread in the vegetable forum (@Dave, could you move this over to the herb forum?) Saw this on Facebook this morning -- looks like a cool way to make an herb spiral...

I like this planter idea, too...

I think Dave and his wife did a larger version of that spiral herb garden earlier this year...? There was a video. Pardon my older brain.
Looks cool. Great for a smaller garden.

I re-purposed my vegetable garden into an herb garden several years ago. I went from five 3' wide x 20' long rows to a labyrinth of sorts, identifying and planting each section with a specific purpose - culinary, aromatic, magical, astrological, medicinal, repellents, and (my favorite) the bitch corner (herbs helpful for female complaints). It has been a great experience so far - the first few years I just grew the herbs, noting their growth patterns and rearranging them. Many are thugs and/or get really large. I am slowly starting to harvest and use them for various tinctures and lotions, learning along the way. I still incorporate some vegetables in the garden, although I only grow what we can use fresh rather than freezing/canning. Ever evolving...

Garlic (vampires and such), mugwort (wild dreams), absinthe (makes you crazy), fennel (clairvoyance), vervain (visions), cannabis (more visions), clover (luck), dictamnus (for the fun of lighting the volatile gas), and betony (repels ghosts). All taken with a large grain of salt. Here's an early spring photo, with appropriate voodoo yard art.
