Ok, so I have alloy of squirrels around as there is a chestnut tree on my street. Is there anything I can do to deter the squirrels from digging around my bulbs that won't hurt my lillys?

You can cut small sections of 'chicken wire', enough to cover the area where you've planted your bulbs and secure it with bricks, etc. After the ground freezes their game is over. Come next Spring, you can remove the wire, since there are no acorns or chestnuts buried there and no smell of them, they will not dig there. Smiling

I have oodles of squirrels here too and so far none has bothered my lily beds and there are lots of lilies around here...... they have buried walnuts since they are tons of them falling across the street but into my grass and not my flower beds..........thank goodness.
I also have fritillaries in my lily beds and nothing seems to bother the beds at all......... although not real fond of the skunk bulb flower they work out great to keep out the rodents. Got to be the Crown Imperial type that you plant though......

best of luck to you. I think the idea of the chicken wire is a great idea as well.........
