I have purchased iris from just about from everyone who sells them, and have to say, there is , maybe, only one vendor who will never get any repeat business from me.(and they are "out of business" now.....and only one vendor that has ALWAYS sent the "correct" iris, replaced any losses...no questions asked (only ever had two "losses" from them, and those were *probably* weather-related), they e-mail before shipping and include tracking info, their selection is very good, the communication is excellent.....they are "always" ready to answer any questions, and are willing to "steer" you to any iris that they, themselves don't grow, and are never fazed by last minute order*alterations*.......and that is Superstition Iris Gardens !! Almost all the places that fall into the "between" those two, are "decent" to work with.....you will get the wrong iris, occasionally, and sometimes they may get a little "cranky" over last minute order changes. And, you may have to e-mail some of them a few times before you get a reply, but, they are "decent" to work with.
I know most of us have our "favorite" vendor....and, sometimes, when I hear someone here "gush" over the fine service that they get from XYZ nursery....I think to myself, "Well they were much luckier than I was!!."....and when I hear somebody praise a nurseries "fine communication", when I have spent days trying to get a response from them, I often say, "Huh !!" Bottom line, I tend to buy from the "introducing" nursery, if possible, and , of course, the iris I'm "wanting" has to be in their inventory. After several years of ordering from a place...you get to know their "style"....and they get to know you ! Some of the 'smaller" vendors will start to include "bonus" iris that they think you will really want to grow, instead of what they have 'too many" of.....you'll start getting e-mails, at the end of the season, asking how "your" iris are doing, or how that last, *new* intro from them is doing in your garden. In other words.....you start being a friend instead of just a customer...and that's important ....and not just where iris are concerned !

Mary Ann. Thanks. That was taken in our home when we lived in the mountains. My wife, who never drew a thing in her life, designed it. It was a real fun piece to do. Last winter I converted the garage in our current home into a studio and I hope to get back to doing some works this winter. It's been about 7 years since I did a piece.

Very true Arlyn. Some vendors are right fast about getting back to you when the news is good, but when there's a problem they avoid you. Not many are like that, but there has been a couple over the years. I have only gotten five wrong irises among the many that I have, All of the vendors made it right, one that is no longer in business took a "bit of encouragement" before they replaced it. One, not an iris place, but had irises among the many other plants did replace it, but that one was wrong too. Blinking Superstition has never sent a wrong one to me yet. They did replace one that died, no questions asked. Once I wanted to add an additional one to the order so I e-mailed them, and they said that they would just add that one as a bonus. How nice is that.
Keith Keppel is another one that I really like to deal with. He is so generous with bonuses, but has also replaced some that died. I always have gotten the right cultivar. Same goes for Mid America and Ghio. They are in business to make their customers happy. Smiling

I will always like Keith Keppel because he put a recent introduction as a bonus--Cotillion Gown--in a two Iris order. I tip my hat to you.

I posted a message this year early in July on the thread 'did you get a box' very excitedly telling everyone which ones I had received from a vendor including the names of the bonuses that I received. Shortly I received a personal email from the vendor telling me that I had not received 'Up In Flames', as I had posted, but instead I had received 'Feel The Heat'. They were hoping to notify me before I made a marker for the plant....... that was Superstition.

Rick & Roger of Superstition Iris Gardens are fantastic! They are great to work with, have the best rhizomes, and my opinion; the BEST "farming" technique for iris growing/propagation bar none. They are also great people and I feel lucky to have shared a small amount of time with them last year. Smiling

"Up in Flames" was too hot to handle so they gave you something a bit further from the fire so you could still "Feel The Heat"! Hilarious!

I am still new to many vendors. I have so far only had 4 wrong iris bloom, but alas 3 of them were from my last 3 orders with Schreiner's. And two of the orders were the fall sale. Not sure if I am just hitting the odds, but..... Sighing!

I feel bad that I didn't get an order in to Superstition this year. I cut way back, mostly due to my dog being in the hospital. That pretty much tied up my fun money for this year, so instead of ordering in the hundred's, I ordered in the ten's. It's probably best as I don't need to make any more beds, I need to do some selective reduction to make space for more.

I have ordered from Superstition but not many, but they know we are median jumkies & at our age we are slowing down. Great to see them again at AIS convention last May.

You've all got me convinced I must try an order with Superstition. Got the catalog this spring and they do offer a great selection and excellent prices. I ended up not ordering any this year, but placing an order seemed a little over complicated to me. I suppose keeping things simple on their end helps keep prices low, and I'm all for that, so I'll certainly give them a try! Oh yeah, now I remember- Hollywood Star was the main one I wanted from them, when it quickly sold out I didn't place an order.

This year, I sent in my Superstition order and they asked me to send a wish list for bonuses... Well, it slipped my mind, and I didn't get around to it. Not very helpful on my part.. but they picked out great bonuses.. Maybe they just got lucky, but I like to think that they put some thought into it based on my previous orders. It was great going up there this past Spring with Marilyn and Barbara. I have a huge amount of respect for their farming methods, and the quality of rhizomes they send out.

I forgot to mention in my previous post how much I enjoyed doing business with Sisters Iris in Oregon too. I didn't order this year, but most likely will next year. I hope to order from Keith Keppel too... Oh gosh... so many Iris, so little time...

Ok dumb question, I ordered from superstition for the first time this year, I plan on ordering from them again but do I need to send for a new catalog or do they send a new one automatically? I'm sure someone knows. Thanks in advance!

We all have different likes, but who's giving the best variety of bonus rhizomes per buck? Most I see are just ehh, but who's stands out?

Remember there is a difference between newly introduced irises & those in the catalog from earlier years.

C & T has some dwarf irises which are not good growers & it is nice to have a source for those as well.
