I am seeing quite a few prolifs also. I need to start making notes on them. Also starting to find a few seed pods ready to collect.

I have a few bee pods, more than usual.

Here is Sweeter Side of Life.

Not quite sure if that is a branch or a prolif starting, or both. That is dirt at the bottom of the plant, not aphids. I need to weed and mulch this bed.

Most of the prolifs I potted last Fall made it through the winter ( 8 out of 10) and were planted next to the mother plant in April. Most of them look great, the two Papa Goose proliferations are still coming back from transplant shock but I think they'll be fine. This definitely seems to be the way to go. Wait as long as possible, until the scape looks like it will go soon, cut off the proliferation, stick it in a pot of dirt and keep it lit and watered until the roots establish…here that is an overwinter project but down South, you might be able to plant them out by Fall.

Mine did great in the pot sitting on the patio all winter. I planted several others next to the parent after they had been growing in the pot long enough to establish some roots.

Seems early to be harvesting proliferations but this morning I noticed that 'Great Balls of Fire' had several proliferations and that a few of them were already dead, a few were at the almost too late stage and others I decide to harvest while they still looked good. So I guess you always need to be on the look out for them and keep and eye on them so they don't die before they can be harvested.
The ones on the right were already dead, the ones on the left are barely hanging in there but do have a chance to survive still.

Then I had these three scapes with three proliferations on each scape.

Here they are after removal from the scapes.

Being I had been donated some Banrot, I did soak them for a few minutes then poured the mixture into the pots to water the plants with. I used 1 teaspoon per gal. of water ratio. About a third as strong as the mixture I used to treat rot in ground for diseased plants.

Thanks for the reminder, Larry. I have several on Bonnie Corley and don't want to lose those. Also I have some on Caught Red-Handed, Sunny Side of Life, and Insider Trading.

Will proliferations harvested from a scape that came from a clump with rot, be affected by the rot?

I have been keeping an eye on Bonnie Corley and decided that it is time to plant most of her prolifs as the scapes are starting to turn brown.

Here they are, freshly clipped from the plant:
Thumb of 2023-07-28/DeweyRooter/dcb292

You can see that one scape produced four proliferations. Wow! This is the first time my plant has ever produced any. She has one more prolif still on the plant; I left it because the same scape has a bee pod, which is green and not ready yet. Bonnie is also reblooming, so I suppose more prolifs could be forthcoming.

How wonderful to have so many proliferations, Nan. Bonnie Corley sounds like it got some extra love and care this year. Smiling

Larry, that is a good question. My guess is no, but if a particular daylily is prone to root rot, I guess that trait would be carried on through the prolif.

Maybe...you are kind to suggest it, but the plant is still fairly recent. Larry @Seedfork sent me four fans in the fall of 2021, so the plant may not have been fully mature until now. I don't know if Bonnie characteristically produces prolifs or not, but I am thrilled with these!

Yes, Bonnie Corley seems to be a fairly regular creator of proliferations here in my garden. I am keeping an eye on some growing on it now, need to check them again this morning.

Well, I potted up my Bonnie Corley proliferations and then decided to check the ones on Caught Red-Handed and Sweeter Side of Life. I am glad I did because they also needed to be planted.

Here are the four new pots of prolifs. The two pots of Bonnie Corley are on the left. Caught Red-Handed and Sweeter Side of Life are on the right.

Here are the Caught Red-Handed prolifs I potted up last year. I have repotted them once.

I should go check on Frankly Scarlet because that one always produces prolifs, too, and I have several FS plants.

Due to the hot dry weather it seems prolifs are drying up much faster than I remembered. I found some already dried up ones on 'Fairhope Artist Colony', 'Blazing Cannons', 'Bill Bob and Earl,'Favored Offering' and 'Christmas Cove'. I should have checked these three or four days ago.
I did manage to harvest some proliferations and get them potted. I did get around to checking 'Bonnie Corley' finally this morning and it had some interesting proliferations on it I managed to save.

One thing I found interesting was that this prolif had actually sent up two scapes, the tiny brown antenna looking things in the photo.
Thumb of 2023-07-29/Seedfork/40da96
This photo illustrates why I like to clean plants and even prolifs before replanting them. This prolif had two roots bound up by an outside leaf base. When I pulled the leaf off I could see the roots curved behind a remaining portion of the leaf. I cleaned that up to free the roots to be able to immediately start growing.

The pots get way too hot when the sun actually directly hits them even through they are sitting under oaks, need to move them but don't have a spot free at the time.

Good photos, Larry. That is really interesting to see the curled-up roots. I will check the next ones I harvest. I have some new ones coming along on Frankly Scarlet.

I was wondering if anyone put them in water to make better roots before planting them? I found a couple on EITPF! I really want to save those.

Teresa, if you go back a page or two on the thread, you'll see references to people starting them in water. I don't because I have had better luck just sticking them in pots, but some have had excellent results with the water method.

If you have more than one on EITPF, you might want to try starting one each way to compare methods.

I have put prolifs in a glass and filled it just up to root level and they developed roots just fine.

Edited to add: However, the last two years, I have just stuck the prolifs in the ground or in a pot and they did just as well.

Good morning, y'all! I'm excited to tell you—especially DeweyRooter and hawkeye_daddy, who encouraged me earlier,—that my two Plum Perfect proliferations are thriving! Hurray! Neither one had roots, so this is doubly exciting.

I also was able to root some seeds from Big Eye Strawberry! The seedlings are still very new, but I'm hopeful they'll grow!

Thank you all for your encouragement!

Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!
