Chicago Apache, what a beautiful red! Red, red and even more beautiful red! This is a nice strong daylily that is a reliable bloomer.

Always beautiful by itself or in a clump!

A mid blooming daylily that handles the Texas heat. A wonderful daylily for the garden.

May every day bring a smile to your face!

I thought I had posted about Chicago Apache already & came back to see how other people liked it. Ah well-had to post about a great daylily. Multiplies great & blooms well despite that it is not in the best location in my garden. Highly recommend it.

This was one of my first daylilies, eons ago. I still have it, still love it, for its wonderful Red color, and it is a very valuable late bloomer, in fact, usually the last daylily to bloom here. It is lovely in the fall border. Foliage is good, healthy, and would not be without it. I have had only occasional winter losses

Chicago Apache is an oldie but goodie. Strong, weatherproof and a classic red. I bought this plant at lest twice ( one is in the fence bed, another by the house and think I put some on Daylily Hill as well.)
The blooms hold a good substance and color, even through July heat and the leaves remain healthy and green through the season.

Some thrip spotting here

This dormant performs well in our heat and humidity. It was its first year here but still put on a good show.

Daylilies & hardy hibiscus
Chicago Apache was one of the first daylilies I added when I moved into my current house in 2015. It is a fast grower/increaser, and I've already had to divide it. From one pot, I now have 6 clumps and 2 pots.

Chicago Apache thrives in my Zone 7b garden, where it borders the sidewalk in a (slightly) raised bed. It loves the bright sunlight (10 AM til sunset in high summer) and benefits from good drainage.

Here are some pics of Chicago Apache from over the years...

Hardy hibiscus are a hobby, but daylilies are an obsession.

Chicago Apache has done beautifully here in zone 8b. I ordered two plants from Oakes in the fall of 2021, and it has been nothing but great. It bloomed from June 11 through August in its first year. Both plants have increased. Best of all, the plant is highly rust-resistant as advertised. Blooms are a vibrant, brilliant red.

It is November, and the foliage is dying back, but I have no doubt Chicago Apache will come back next spring as vigorous as ever, and that I will enjoy it for many years to come.

2022… still going strong! The fence bed version has spread out and bloomed from July 3 -August 2. That's pretty much Midseason here. It's still a vibrant classic.

2023 update…not much change from last year. I might be redesigning this bed soon though.

In 2019 it looked really good. In 2022 production was not aa good. It was definitely more crowded. No photo in 2023.
