Come mid July, you walk out to your car in the parking lot and find zucchini in it

You turn your air conditioner off one day and the furnace on the next,

You have 2 season's "Winter" and "Road Construction"

In the MidWest:

You can plant most plants all but 4 or 5 months of the year if you are
careful and diligent.

Foods from almost every culture in the country and maybe the world can
be found in most towns with more than one convenience store and family.
We are the breadbasket of the country.

We seem to be the last part of the nation to see the newest clothes
and shoe fashions. As a result we seem to be a long way behind
because we're still wearing the styles of last years or the year before.
We older folks don't take to change well.

IMO The coasts can keep much of the "latest fashion", especially crazy shoes that would make my feet hurt .

You know you are from the midwest when the mosquito are larger than some birds. In fact, I would swear they are the state bird of Wisconsin!

I have heard that the mosquito should be the state bird of Minnesota too...it's all those darn lakes!

Somewhere in my junk drawer is a little metal spring trap about a 1/2 to 1 inch big, The package says "mosquito trap". Keep those cirtters up further north, OK?

Well dont grow any lakes CJ and you should be good -- although you have had some rain lately so maybe they will move down to your area soon!

You know you are from the Midwest when your Fall outdoor decor are hedge balls along the edge of the garden.

Your garden looks ready for winter already - you are so ahead of me on that one sally.

I sure am CJ. That was last year, LOL, but there are new hedgeballs out there now. The Grandsons and I just picked up a bunch Saturday :o)

So far, I do have most everything cut down in the beds. I haven't done the liatris yet because the finches really like to eat them, and the neighbor's cats still sleep under the baptisia.

I got a kick out of these, but have nothing new to add. When I am bored, I look for old threads to bump. :)

Still waiting for the killing freeze to occur... I'm having to water things that should be going dormant. We have a new neighbor, but some in the family do not like it here... a possum has taken up residence under the front porch. I hope to get a picture, I think they're cute. Most that I see are roadkill.

Still haven't had killing freeze or even frost in my yard. Lowest temp has been 35. Very dry - about 1/2" of rain for the whole month. Leaves are wilting on shrubs like crazy. Hoping for a good rain today but won't hold my breath - it keeps fading away before we get more than a few sprinkles.

I was told today that they are good for keeping mice away. I don't know if that's true or not, but it sounds good.

No rain in Wichita either. They're saying maybe Friday. My fingers are crossed. I am sick of watering too.

Updating about our possum, it ended up being two, a mom and a young one. We only would see them when we came home in the evening, but then it dropped down to one. We think it was Mr. Great Horn. I would leave out a piece of fruit and it was eaten. In the snow, I saw its tracks. Well, Mr. Great Horn came back along with his lady, waking me up with their calling from our trees. Since then, I've not seen any signs of a possum. :(

We also have short-tailed shrews, but haven't seen a live one yet. They were attracted to peanut butter on a mouse trap. Bummer... For the time being, the mouse traps were put away until we see signs of mice actually causing damage or getting feed in one of our sheds. We had put the traps out as a preventative measure.

Welcome, Sally. As you know, I am still at the other place. The appearance of the changes was drastic, but I am trying to get used to it. I sure hope they have fixed a couple of the more annoying bugs.
