Thanks Leon and Cinda. What struck me initially was the lack of color. It looks for all the world like a black and white photo, but is not. It is unphotoshopped (if there is such a word Green Grin! ) so there was no fiddling with the color. It was a startling reminder that the landscape in winter can be quite devoid of color.

Many thanks Arlene and Mike. Your comments helped me decide to include this photo in a show that I'm going to propose to a local art gallery. I tip my hat to you.

The shot is show worthy. The depth, focus and framing are excellent. I think the "lack" of color adds to the tone. Love it.

I loved it Larry and it won my vote also. A truly captivating photo. One thing that really grabbed me about this one was that it was something created wholly by nature. Probably somewhat rare to run across something like that but you did & it was obvious it was not in any way contrived or manipulated by the photographer. Kudos for being in the right place at the right time and *seeing* what would be a very special photo. Thumbs up

@LarryR - did you come upon the scene by accident or were you aware of it from another season? It really could be a Christmas card.

I also love this photo and voted for it. It really captured the stark beauty of a snowy/icy winter. Can you share any camera-related details?

Thank you all for your enthusiasm concerning the photo. I certainly agree that the shot would make a lovely Christmas card and would have used it. We decided several years ago to send our Christmas greetings via email. We donate the money we save on cards and stamps to the local food bank.

Makes one want to kerp going back for another peek. Would you mind if I use this as my screen saver? Would go nowhere else but on my Ipad.

I don't really know if Ipad can manage a personal screensaver. Never found an image that made me want to return to look as many times as this!!
