I've been growing this for awhile and I think its about time I learned the proper name for it. Does anyone have any ideas to help me out?

Gave me a Peperomia vibe.

Peperomia got me excited. However my stems are never red and the foliage does not sit on the stems but has little stems about 1 to
1 1/2" keeping the foliage up from the vine stem. The reddish white is an air root because I keep forgetting to water it.

Have you ever seen flowers on your plant? My first thought was Peperomia too, not all Peperomia's have red stems, do they? . For comparison check out Cypress Peperomia (Peperomia glabella) Then I thought perhaps Peruvian Grape Ivy (Cissus rotundifolia) but the leaves aren't right for that. It also reminds me a lot of:

Is that your Hoya? I lust after them. They hate me. My husband grows them in his office and if I go in to visit him the leaves start to shake. If I even touch Hoya they die. Every hoya I tried to grow dies for me that is why they are in his office. That picture shows that it is very healthy. I was looking at Peperomia urocarpa which has similar foliage but it does have red stems.

I have no earthly idea what that is, but me like.

Tree, that's the same Pep species I encountered trying to ID your plant, but also came to the conclusion that it wasn't exactly the same, but only based on the very few pics I could find. The whorl of 3 leaves per node eliminates a lot of things, but I wasn't able to find an exact match.

It is pretty old. I can't find the tag when I bought it of course I've many tags to go through. I've never seen it bloom. Hopefully it isn't one of those monocarpic plants. I'll see the flower be able to ID it and then it'll die on me. Thanks for your thoughts.

Hmm... mentioning a tag makes me think it might have come from EA. The P. japonica on their page is promising, Glasshouse Works has a better pic of it.

P. orba might be another to consider, brief search didn't yield a pic from which I could determine leaf arrangement, but I didn't look for long or attempt to find written description. Having a memory that P. orba may not be an accepted name. Could be something to check if you think it's a candidate, (not just my possible faulty memory.)

Tiffany I agree with you about the plant being a peperomia. I have Peperomia hoffmannii aka Isabella from EA and I just looked at the leaves. They form clusters of anywhere from 3 to 5 leaves. Those peperomia have opposite foliage not trifoliage foliage. Off one stem mine has a whorl of three leaflets. You can see what I'm talking about in my last picture I posted.

I found the tag it is Neoalsmitra sarcophylla. It use to have variegated foliage and because I didn't pull off the green ones over time it is now all green. Enclosed not a very good picturre of when I first grew it.

I tried googling that and couldn't find anything. Is there a synonym for that name?

Beth, I finally found a link to DG where that plant is pictured with lots of missing data. I clicked on the website to the one vender listed Peppers Greenhouses. This is what I found listed on their online catalog: A cucurbet (misspelled) vine from Burma with lance shaped leaves in sets of 3 produces big clusters of small straw colored flowers..let dry between waterings. I don't know how reliable his descriptions are, but I do know that his reviews on DG Plantscout are terrible. Here is what I originally intended to post:

Treehugger, did you check out the link above that I posted? Looking at your last picture, your plant has all of the qualities of a watermelon peperomia. It does look a lot like the last once pictured, the NOID, which sounds a lot like the descriptions of peperomia japonica. People sometimes make names up just to get unsuspecting buyers to purchase from them. JMHO.

This is true about made up names. I have hamsters and you'd be surprised by all the names they give the same species of hamster lol. But I've seen that with plants too. It just adds to the confusion, especially if you're new to plants.

I looked it up on the web and found it under Bihrmann's caudiciform. Picture is a perfect match for my foliage. I grow some peperomia and it really isn't peperomia. I'm enclosing another picture of my plant you can see the caudiciform in the center of the foliage that is always hidden by foliage.

I hope that it's not going to lead to another addiction. It's nice to know that some of the plants/bulbs I already have are listed as caudiciforms and peperomias are included.
